Disclaimer: I do not own a great and terrible beautly, well actually I own the book, but not the people.
It was a rainy day at Spence Academy, as it had been for the past few days, weeks, nearing a month. That's right for twenty-five days it had rained non stop. And as the gale force winds once again shattered the window, Gemma Doyle awoke from her bored stupor. Anne was away with Felicity and Gemma, wanting to be depressed, had stayed behind. For it was not the weather that made her upset, but the fact that she hadn't seen or heard from Kartik in the past twenty-five days. That fact alone made her want to run around Spence screaming at the top of her lungs to have everyone leave her bloody well alone till he came back. And her sub-conscious wasn't helping either, constantly telling her awful things. Things that even now made her sob in anguish. He may never come back; he may have betrayed you to the Rakshanna. No, No, NO, he would never do that to me, he left them to help me. These were the thoughts that plagued her and kept her awake most of the long nights. But unfortunately at that moment she could not think of Kartik, or the last time they had seen each other.
FLASHBACK
Gemma ran through the woods, she didn't care that her cloak was now completely covered in mud. Or that she was getting little scratches along her arm. She vaguely remembered the note that was pinned to her wall telling her to go to the lake as soon as possible. Lost in her thoughts she didn't notice the root that seemed determined to trip her. Alas she would have fallen and landed in the mud had it not been for an arm wrapping around her waist before she fell.
"You came" Kartik whispered into Gemma's ear.
"Of course I did, why wouldn't I?"
"I was just surprised that you were able to come, I didn't think you would be able to sneak away."
Gemma stared into the eyes of the man she loved. This was the closest they had been in quite some time. In fact if her memory was correct, the last time they had been this close was when they had danced by the stables at her grandmothers London house. She laid her hand against his chest, listening to his heartbeat. As he began to stroke her hair, she realized why he has asker her to come out to the woods.
"You are leaving, aren't you?"
"Yes, the gypsies
are leaving and I can't stay here by myself without getting some
provisions."
By this time tears were welling up in Gemma's
eyes. "How long will you be gone?"
"I won't be gone long, no more than a month, I promise. Will you wait for me?"
"Till the end of time."
END FLASHBACK
As Gemma walked over to the window to pick up the pieces, she saw the cut on her palm, Great how am I going to explain this to Anne and everyone else. As she wrapped up her hand, she looked in the mirror, and she saw someone behind her.
"I hope you don't mind me using the window?" Kartik said as he walked towards his beloved Gemma.
"Not at all"
He closed the gap between them and kissed her for what seemed an eternity. And for the first time in twenty-five days the sun came out.
