This was written for the SM_Monthly fanfiction challenge Day 2 – Winter Sports.
The idea for this drabble was spawned from chapter 30 of Melinda Sandy Halliwell's "The Final Enemy is Within".
History repeats itself
It was a rather cold day in Tokyo. A good few inches of snow had fallen overnight, creating a beautiful winter scene across the whole city. In the park, families built snowmen and had snowball fights. Those who had skates were out on the pond that had frozen over. Ten friends had taken advantage of this day to have some fun and had already spent a few hours out on the ice.
Ami sat alongside her sisters unlacing her ice skates, wondering where the boys had gone off to. The sound of a *THWAP* along with a high pitched screech coming from the girl to her right gave her the answer she was looking for. Before she could turn around to get a good look at the offender, a snowball made contact with her shoulder. "What the…" *THWAP* Yet another had made contact, this time just to her left. Within seconds, five girls were off their bench and huddled behind it, gathering as much snow as possible to quickly make snowballs.
Makoto hurriedly whispered to her friend, "Ami-chan, can you give us a little help here? You know…firm up these snowballs for a little extra punch?"
The other girls nodded in agreement. Ami hesitated, but decided it was a good idea after all. She closed her eyes and held her hands out over the pile of snowballs. Satisfied with her work, she picked one up and lobbed it over the bench at a curly haired strawberry-blonde male who had his back turned. *THUNK* "OW! That hurt!!" A collective cheer rose up from the direction of the girls.
The fight continued on for a while before both sides decided that neither would actually "win". They called a truce and shook hands, agreeing that it was time to head in for the day.
Ami returned to the bench to collect her skates and was tailed by Zach.
"Well, that brings back some fun memories, don't you think?"
She looked at him quizzically. "What are you talking about?"
He grinned. "The snowball fight. It's been a very long time since I've had so much fun throwing snowballs."
"Yeah, me too. But what does that have to do with… Ohhh" A look of realization crept upon her face and she immediately blushed.
"So you do remember, then?" His grin grew even wider.
Her blush only deepened as she nodded an affirmative. She bent over to pick up her skates, a slight smile growing as she also picked up a handful of snow. Cheeks still red but fully smiling, she turned back to him.
He smiled back, noticing her flush. He traced a gloved finger along her jaw. "We could make tonight a repeat, you know." Winking, he leaned in for a kiss.
Before his lips could meet hers, she whispered, "I think you need to cool down first." With that, she reached up and dropped the wad of snow onto his head. Bursting into a fit of giggles she took off running to catch up with her friends.
All he could do was stare after her, laughing at his own misfortune at not seeing that coming. After all, it was the same thing that had happened the first time. He began to blush as the memory bubbled forth. There would indeed be a repeat tonight.
