Hello, I am Smokey Gilpin. I live in District 12, and we are all totally poor. I am sixteen and I have a twelve year old sister. This is a horrible day, because it is the Reaping. Effie Trinket comes up to the stage.
"Welcome, welcome, and may the odds be ever in your favour!" Effie trills. "This is the 5th Annual Hunger Games, because somehow I am alive already . The female tribute… Sauna Gilpin!"
"No…no… not Sauna. I volunteer!" I shriek. I run to stage, tell my name with my totally brilliant voice. "I'm Smokey Gilpin. I am totally fantastic but doomed. I shalll win because I am the main character."
Nobody cheers, because it is District 12 and nobody cheers. Next, the Peacekeepers escort me to a room in the Justice Building, where people will say goodbye to me.
