Esme's POV
Alice flitted down the stairs smiling ear to ear.
"What are you so happy about, Allie?" Jasper asked.
"It's a secret," she replied, tapping him on the nose playfully.
Edward stopped reading and stared at Alice with a questioning look. "When?"
"About, oh, five seconds," she replied.
A hooded figure rushed through the trees, followed by 6 wolves. Everyone stood up, and rushed out the door. The wolves had treed the figure. The largest one, whom I suspected was Sam, started trying to climb the tree.
"I'm sorry!" yelled a beautiful alto.
Sam fell off the tree whimpering. The others growled at the figure, while Carlisle ran to Sam's side. He helped Sam up and all the wolves darted away.
The figure jumped from the tree, causing her hood to fall off. She had straight golden-blonde hair that barely reached her shoulders and piercing crimson eyes. "Are you the Cullens?" she asked.
"Yes, I'm Carlisle, this is my wife, Esme. These are my sons, Edward, Emmett, and Jasper, and my daughters Rosalie and Alice. Edward's wife Bella is off hunting. May I ask who you are?"
"My name is Dawn Vinson. I came here because I want to change. I want to stop hurting innocent humans."
"Why don't we discuss this inside?" I suggested. We all turned and ran towards the house.
"Esme?" she asked.
"Yes?"
"Your first husband was Charles Evenson, correct?" Carlisle stiffened.
"Correct."
"Well… He's still around."
I stopped running and Carlisle was suddenly at my side squeezing my hand.
"What do you mean?" Carlisle and I asked simultaneously.
"He's a vampire now."
"How would you know this?" I asked as Carlisle led me inside.
"He's my biological father. He wasn't much of a father. I ran away when I was 16 and managed to stowaway on a plane. I didn't know where I was headed, I just wanted to get away from him. It turns out, I landed about 10 miles away from Volterra. I walked right into Volterra, unaware of the dangers. At night, I was trying to figure out a place to stay and Jane overtook me. As she drank, I didn't stop struggling. She had bitten me in 4 different places. Someone pulled her off me, so I crawled away. After I turned, after I fed, I stowed-away on another plane. I met him in Montana, and he tried to get me to join his coven. Seeing his cruelty really made me want to change."
"That's not the whole story," Edward said.
She stared at him for a moment before speaking again. "Your son, well, he… he wasn't your son. On that day, another woman gave birth in the same small hospital. That woman was his mother."
"Then who was my son?" I asked squeezing Carlisle's hand.
"Daughter," She corrected.
"Who?"
"Me."
Before she could say another word I was right beside her, hugging her tightly.
"How do you know this, Dawn?" Carlisle asked.
I let her go so she could speak. "Well, a nomad I met had a gift rather like Aro's. He could see everything I had ever seen. He saw you, Esme."
