He couldn't watch, David Evans, 7 covered his eyes just as he, watching TV saw the late Gary Oak yell, "Umbreon, thunder attack now!" David wiped the tear from his eye as he saw Lance, the Dragon Master, his own father get strike by the thunder attack, stumble to his feet and die.
It was in the summer of the year 1989; his dad and Oak were battling in the semi-final of the Johto League Championships. David punched the stop button and removed the tape and stumble up to his room wondering why the powerful, the honorable late Sir Gary Oak would want to kill his father, Lancelot Evans, the Champion and Chief of the Johto Elite 4 champions.

David now aged 12 walked into the Blackthorn Village Hospital in the continent of Golyton. "David?" He spun around and saw Nurse Joy with a somber face; "Your mother is dead."
David didn't flinch but asked, "What were my mother's last words?" Joy answered, "Let him be a Pokemon Trainer."
2 hours later
"But why are you leaving?" David's Uncle Dr. Evans asked. "Simple enough," David replied, "I'm leaving on my Pokemon Journey." "But your sister?" Dr. Evans cut in. "She can stay here." David said. As he slipped his father's Pokemon League Champion 1988 Gold Medal and his mother's last Rising Badge into his vest.
"Where will you get your Pokemon?" asked his sister Casey, aged 11. "I pre-ordered one from the Republic of China two weeks ago, it should be here…" They heard a loud cry of, "Postman!" "Now!" David said smiling for the first time in 48 hours.
What David preordered was actually a Pokedex programmed by Prof. Xue of the Chinese Pokemon University, a second-hand Pokegear which was never ever used and six Pokeballs with one containing a Pokemon. As David tore open the package he noticed a leaflet on the newly formed Golyton League promising himself that he would read it later, he tossed the Pokeball on the ground, "Pokemon go!" A tiny snake appeared in a flash of light. Dr. Evans gasped, "A Dratini! But they cost $ 8000!" David smiled, "I got this in a lucky draw." he said picking it up. Dratini giggled and snuggled into his vest.
"I'll leave tomorrow," said David hugging his Dratini and closing his bedroom door before reading the leaflet. "Hmmm, a new league. With six badges to collect before entering the Golyton League sounds interesting, sign-up at your local Pokemon Center now!" That was the only problem. The nearest Pokemon Center was 12 miles away in the town of Rolltex.

The jeep halted at the Pokemon Center of Rolltex and David leapt out. After bidding farewell to his sister and Uncle, he walked into the crowded Pokemon Center and walked into the Golyton sign-ups lane, which was extremely crowded. After an hour of pulling and pushing, he finally reached the counter and handed over his Pokedex before filling up a form that stated his name, address, Pokedex number, starting Pokemon and guardian.
The Nurse at the counter smiled, "Congratulations, you now are registered for the Golyton League." she passed him a small blue book. "This is your guide book to the Golyton League, the first place to win a badge would probably be in the Village of Villiaton's Pokemon Gym, the leader uses grass Pokemon."
"Thanks." he mumbled putting the guide-book and Pokedex into his vest before leaving the Pokemon Center for Route 1 to the Villaton City!
