When I was approached by BHG publications to write this book, I originally turned down the offer as I believed that my story at twenty five years old has further to go, and that I have not yet lived to learn from my mistakes. I was asked to think of my fans, to which I asked the now editor of this book – why do I have fans? Why should I call people who have solely contributed into making me as fortunate as I am today my fans? Surely I should be theirs? I owe everything to the people out there who care about my music, and my loves and my life and to whom I owe the most sincere of gratitude and therefore thinking of my makers I turned down the offer of this book. And then I was sent a letter by a seventeen year old girl from the area I grew up, who went to the same high school and was on the same fast track that I had found myself thrust upon and I just wanted to scream STOP and tell her that from experience to slow down and enjoy being a teenager – listen to the music not obsess over the unnecessary hardships and to not just look at the cake but eat it as well. And stop to enjoy it.
So then I phoned Erica Housen and I agreed to the write this book, as a testament to my parents, and my teachers and my 'fans'.
So I dedicate this book to everybody who is obsessing over eating that cake in front of you. Eat It.
