The streets of New York were empty, cars deserted where they stood, their owners having fled on foot.

Nathan had done it. Senator for only a couple of hours, but he had done what most thought impossible; he had evacuated the city. The entire city. Not that it mattered now.

And now it was that morning. The morning Issac had seen in his vision. The morning Hiro had experienced. The morning Peter had described. And they couldn't stop it.

Claire looked at her friends. So much had happened in those short weeks, and yet now there was no time.

It was almost identical to Peter's dream… almost. Claire looked down at her clothes; jeans and a tee, not her cheerleading uniform. Hiro looked at her and shrugged. They had both believed that by changing the little things, that they could change the big things. Get Issac back to New York, make Nathan believe, then maybe…

But now it was too late.

Matt started to yell at them to run, even though they all knew they wouldn't make it out alive.

Claire made her way to Peter. She looked into his eyes and saw the burning in them. She knew this was it, and couldn't think of anything to say but "I'm sorry…"

Sorry she couldn't help, sorry she didn't no what to do, sorry she hadn't told him how she felt.

She turned on her heel and ran.

Save the cheerleader… Save the world. She stopped dead in her tracks. She was indestructible.

She looked at her friends. So much had happened in those short weeks, and yet now there was no time. No time to say goodbye if this went wrong.

She raced back to Peter's side. He looked at her puzzled. In one swift movement she reached a hand behind his neck and pulled him to her, pressing her lips firmly against his and taking the radioactivity into herself.

The burning moved from him to her. She broke the kiss and pushed him back.

"Hiro! Take me to space!"

"Claire, no…" Peter said. Hiro hesitated.

"Now Hiro!" her small 16 year old body had a voice so strong and commanding in that moment, that he ran to her almost involuntarily.

She grabbed his hand, took one last look at Peter and whispered, "Take me to the edge of the universe."

Hiro squeezed his eyes shut and they disappeared.

"Claire!" Micah cried out.

Peter touched his lips where she'd kissed him and looked at the sky.

Hiro reappeared.

"Where is she? Where did you take her?"

Hiro looked up, "The edge of the milky way."

And as they looked up they saw it. Though thousands of light years away, the explosion was so immense they could see a glimmer of light and hear the smallest boom.

She had become a supernova… was she really that indestructible?

Roll on January 22nd!!
