This is my first Avengers/Marvel story, and it's gonna be a little slow in the beginning, so have patience.
"Sir? You have an incoming call." Agent Hill informed over the intercom to Fury's office.
"From whom?"
"Jackson Ross." Fury raised an eyebrow at the name of one of his former agents.
"Ross?"
"Yes, sir, he's requesting to speak to you."
"Put him on." There was a beep from the sound system before a voice came through.
"Ross, it's been a while."
"Yes sir, I know," Jack replied.
"Is there a problem?" Fury asked as he began to work on a memo.
"Sir, I recently moved back to Madison, Wisconsin, and while I was unpacking, I uncovered old medical files."
"Of?"
"My daughter, Seleni." There was a pause. Fury pursed his lips as he let the name sink in.
"What about her?"
"She's been missing for nearly 13 years sir, I know it's been a few years since… the incident, but I was curious if you knew where she is."
"I'm sorry, Jack, but I don't know where she is. I've only met her once."
"I-I am aware of that."
"What is it about her medical files?" He heard Jack sigh.
"Well, considering what she went to the ER for in the first place, I thought Kathryn brought her to you guys." Fury was even more confused.
"Kathryn? Jackson, what are you talking about." Another sigh.
"Request to take a quinjet to Washington?"
"Request accepted." He hung up the call and took a few moments to think. Fury was well aware of what happened with Ross's only daughter. There was an explosion at their house that caused the then five-year-old to go into a coma, he forgot how long it lasted.
The explosion caused physical damage to the kid as well, though Fury didn't have the full details.
The following day, Jack arrived in Washington and went up to Fury's office. There, Fury invited him to sit down. Jack was noticeably uneasy, and Fury didn't know why.
With the Ross family, everything usually flew under Fury's radar, but Jack and Kathryn had been some of Fury's most trusted agents, along with Romanoff, Barton, and now the Avengers as a whole. Though Jack hadn't yet met any of them.
"Talk to me, Jack. Explain to me." Jack opened his briefcase and pulled out a manila folder, filled with files and tossed them to Fury's desk.
"Seleni's medical files, from 2003." Fury gave Jack a look and flipped through them. A few key words stood out to him, such as "markings", "coma". Jack then explained everything that had happened that night in the emergency room.
"It was like an unseen energy force had total control of the singular room. Whatever, it was, it was concentrated around her. Her heartbeat was unnaturally fast for a human and had it bone a few paces faster, she probably would've gone into heart failure. What you told me about the Tesseract before the New York incident, what I saw hovering above her was eerily similar. Instead of blue, it was more… violet, and far more powerful. It took over her body, and nobody was able to touch her without getting burned. Whatever that energy source was, it changed her. After her coma, both of her eyes turned violet, and the right side of her face was covered with these… markings! I'd never seen anything like it. Once the doctors determined she was healthy enough to go home, we took her back, and strange things started happening. Not necessarily paranormal or supernatural, just… strange. Then, there was another explosion, and it caused Kathryn to snap, and she took Sel away… and that was the last time I saw her. Kathryn came back without her, and she told me not to search for her…"
Fury leaned back in his chair in awe. He'd heard of the strange and supernatural, especially with Loki and the Tesseract, but that was different.
"What do you want us to do?"
"I know you say she's not in any nearby SHIELD bases, but I want you to search everywhere for her. Looking at those files again got me thinking. I don't know what Kathryn did with her, and I'm honestly scared to find out."
"You don't think Kathryn, dealt, with her?" Fury asked warily, Jack shook his head.
"Kathryn wasn't that kind of mother. She loved our kids, but, something about Sel scared her, and I don't know what went down. But if you can find her, I'll get the answers I need, and I want to fix things."
Fury knew Kathryn was a hardcore agent, she took her job seriously and had an extensive skill set. But he didn't like the idea of a mother killing her child over the fear of the supernatural…
"Alright, I'll see what my team can do, and we'll search. She's still within the country, so we already have that narrowed down."
"Let me know if you find anything. I'm going back to Madison to do my own research, you know where to find me." With that, Jack left.
