Just for a little while
"John, are you alright?" I watched as he tried to hide his crying from me.
"I'm fine, Cameron, go away." I stood there. I couldn't leave him. My mission was to protect John Connor at all costs.
"I cannot leave you like this."
"I'm fine, really, just go." I walked to the side of his bed and sat next to him.
"Do you want to talk about it? You said humans like to talk about their feelings."
"I, Cam, no, not right now." I pressed on, just as John and Future-John showed me how to.
"Do you need comfort?" John looked shocked. I searched the room quickly with my eyes. "What is wrong?"
"Just, Cam, just hold me, please…" I was confused, why did he want me to hold him. I'm not human, I can't love him. At least I don't think I can love him.
"Just, never mind…" I reached over and wrapped my arms around John's back, pulling his body close to mine. I felt John sink into my embrace, holding onto my upper arms, like a lifeline, his sobs muffled in my chest. I didn't understand why he was crying but I understood he needed me to hold him, if just for a little while.
