This is the first in a series of sixteen one-shots, each focusing on a next gen character. They're supposed to be in what I think is the age order, so it's Teddy first and Hugo last. Enjoy!

Pink's Not Really My Colour

It was a beautiful summer's day, and Teddy Lupin was standing in the hallway of his godfather's house, facing the mirror. His various adoptive cousins were all outside enjoying the sun, along with Harry. Ginny, meanwhile, had retreated to her bedroom complaining of a headache, as she was heavily pregnant with her third child.

" Teddy?" Harry had re-entered the house. " Are you coming outside? James and Al want you to play with them."

" I'll be out in a minute," replied Teddy, and he watched his godfather go back outside. He turned back to the mirror. He was just tall enough to be able to see his face in the mirror, and that was all he needed. On either side of the mirror were various photos; a picture of Harry and Ginny at their wedding, a picture of the pair of them with a baby Teddy, a picture of them with Teddy, James and a baby Al, and a picture of four boys standing arm in arm in front of a stone wall. Teddy's eyes rested on the boy at the end, the one with the slightly nervous smile, the light brown hair and the kind eyes. He returned to his own reflection, and saw those same eyes staring back at him. His hair was blond today, at Victoire's request, so that their hair colour matched. Harry had told him that his mother's favourite hair colour was pink. Teddy scrunched up his face as though he was struggling to remember something. When he looked at his reflection again, his hair was pink. He stayed still for some time, looking at his hair. Finally, he shook his head, and screwed his eyes shut again.

This time, his hair was light brown. This suited him, he had to admit, but it was too… normal. Lots of people had light brown hair. The same could be said for lots of colours, so he didn't even bother to try them. He made his hair tomato red. He could have passed for one of the Weasleys. Then he would feel more like a part of their family. No. If he wanted to have an original hair colour, going for the hair colour of most people he knew didn't seem to be the best idea. He thought again. Now his hair was green. Still no good. Green made him feel slightly sick. He scrunched his eyes up again.

" Teddy, what are you doing?"

He wheeled round. Ginny was standing at the foot of the stairs. He hadn't heard her approach, but she seemed to have been watching the nine year old for some time.

" I'm changing my hair colour," he replied evasively.

" I can see that," said Ginny, walking over to him. " But why?"

" I want a signature hair colour," he said in a slightly defensive tone.

" How about pink? Your mum always had pink hair," Ginny smiled reminiscently.

" Pink's not really my colour," sniffed Teddy, and he sounded so grown up that Ginny couldn't resist grinning.

" I see. What else have you tried?"

He listed the different colours he'd tried that hadn't worked.

" How about blue?" Ginny suggested.

He turned to face the mirror again. He screwed his eyes shut again. When he opened them, his hair had gone turquoise.

" That suits you Teddy," said Ginny.

" Yeah, I think so too," he nodded. " My signature colour is turquoise!"

" But, when you go to Hogwarts you might want a 'normal' hair colour," Ginny told him. " They might not like you having turquoise hair."

Just then, James and Fred came thundering into the hallway.

" Teddy come on!" they begged. " We're going to have a water fight, and we want to get Victoire's dress soaked. You're the only one with good aim!"

Teddy grinned at the four year olds, and followed them out into the afternoon sun.

…..

So what do you think? It's quite short, but all of these are going to vary in length. The next one will be Victoire.
