A short story based on a favorite scene from the novel ... though sadly I do not have my novel with me ... so the quotes are fudged. Just a little ElphaBoq-ness. ... hey that could be a good pairing name! ElphaBoq. I like it! Oh, wish me luck! I'm trying out for Sally in my school's production of You're A Good Man Charlie Brown!

Elphaba looked very annoyed with him. "Boq, can't you see that you're with a million of her?" Then her expression changes. "Oh ... not that look!" She flushed, her cheeks a darker green than normal. "I didn't mean to me!" She runs off with her parcel as quickly as she'd came, leaving Boq in the dust. Boq's jaw had dropped open slightly.

You're with a million of her.

Elphaba didn't give a genuine compliment at the drop of a hat. And the befuddled Master Boq knew Elphaba was rather fond of her roommate. So, what were Miss Elphaba's feeling's for him? Did she ... could she like him? Really, could she? As a woman likes a man?

Boq couldn't imagine Elphaba loving anyone. Oh, he knew Elphaba loved her family, her sister. She loved her causes. But romance?

Elphaba would not be a normal girlfriend. Elphaba was not a normal anything. She was prickly and passionate and a whirlwind. She stuck to her guns, and was as stubborn as a mule.

But did she like him?

He had known Elphaba as a small child. He had been two years her senior, and could faintly remember the little green nymph from a playgroup. She had always been oddly intelligent, but almost naïve. This had changed. She had been too burned and scared to trust, and had somehow grown idealistic.

Elphaba Thropp. She was his friend. Almost a sister. A classmate and a colleague.

But did she like him?

He imagined courting Miss Elphaba. Carrying her books to class for her-would she let him? Taking her out to a dance. Asking Frex for her hand in marriage-a daunting task. The images weren't horrible.

But did she like him?

Boq had to admit. Elphaba was different, but she had atleast one thing in common with her gender-she baffled him to death.
