Chloe/Lana angst/friendship *not slash*

Summary: Lana and Chloe don't feel pretty, even thought they are.

Lana smiled as Chloe told her about this new blonde boy she had met. Lana was happy for her, really. But Lana could help noticing the huge grin on her face, her perfect teeth, and the overall radiance of Chloe as she talked.

"Lana, I really like him! And he's not Clark and not a freak! This is like a big break for me!" Chloe squealed like a little girl.

"That's great, Chloe. I am so happy for you!" Lana squealed back, trying to participate in this soul-sharing she had hoped for from the minute she moved in with the Sullivan's.

Lana knew there was, as Clark so eloquently put it, a lot of water under the bridge with all three of them, and Lana wanted to get closer to Chloe. She never thought that the more she learned about this girl, the more inferior she would feel.

Chloe didn't know it, but Whitney commented on her brains and looks more than once while they were dating. A lot of kids she used to hang around with did.

A few weeks after Lana "officially" moved in with Chloe, she realized she needed her own mirror. Standing next to Chloe in the bathroom that they shared, both of them picking apart their appearances, was too much for Lana.

//Dear friend

I'm here for you

I know that you don't talk too much

But we can share this day anew

Dear friend

Please don't feel like you're alone

There is someone who is praying

Praying for your piece of mind

Hoping joy is what you find//

Chloe mirrored Lana's grin, but on the inside, she wasn't as happy with her prospective date as she seemed. She practically had to maul this boy and then ended up having to use her power of tongue tricks to sway him to go out with her. Of course, she wasn't telling Lana that.

"Lana, I really like him! And he's not Clark, or a freak! This is like a big break for me!" Chloe squealed, hoping Lana would take this girly bonding moment at face value.

"That's great, Chloe! I'm so happy for you!" Lana squealed back.

Chloe knew that Lana and she had a lot of issues, as Clark put it, but she really did like the girl. She wanted to help her out. She didn't want Lana to be uprooted from what meant almost everything to her, all of the memories of her parents. Chloe knew what that was like since coming to Smallville.

Lana didn't see it, but Clark was in love with her. Actually, Lana did see it, but had enough self control to hold back until Clark was ready for a real relationship. That just made her all the more a saint.

A couple of weeks after Lana "officially" moved in with the Sullivan's, she asked if she could nail her full-length mirror into the backside of her bedroom door. Chloe was so glad she didn't have to kick Lana out of her bathroom for no reason. Just standing next to Lana Lang in all her glory was too much for her.

//Dear Friend

What's on your mind

You don't laugh the way you used to

But I've noticed how you cry

Dear friend I feel so helpless

I see you sit in silence

As you face new pain each day

I feel there's nothing I can do//

Each girl grinned at the other, each secretly hoping the other wouldn't see what they were hiding.

//I know you don't feel pretty

Even though you are

But it wasn't your beauty

That found truth in my heart I know you don't feel weak

Even though you are

But it wasn't your strength

That found room in my heart//
