A/N: Happy birthday, Lu! I hope this year is kind to you, and congrats on making it another year :D
Prompts are at the bottom so as to not spoil the fic :)
Lily Evans ran her fingers over the dusty black cover over her childhood piano. She'd thought her parents had thrown in out or given it away, but now she'd found it in their attic.
Her fiancé (how she loved that word!), James Potter, came up the stairs and stood behind her, wrapping his strong arms around her midsection.
"What's that?" he asked.
She turned to face him. "It's a piano, dummy. Can't you tell?"
He glanced at the black mass. "Erm, no. It's covered by something, if you hadn't noticed."
She swatted him. "Shut up and help me get this off of it."
She ended up playing several songs for her friends — Marlene, Dorcas, Alice, Frank, James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter.
She had magically tuned it, sat down on the bench, placed her hands on the familiar keys, took a deep breath, and began playing.
James listened, amazed. He'd never known she played the piano. The sound that came from deep inside was high and tinkling at times, and deep and rich at others.
She played like a pro, and everyone was in awe at the ethereal sounds. When she was done, she received a kiss from James and a standing ovation from the others.
Lily rose before dawn the next morning. She made herself a cup of coffee and sat out on the porch of her childhood home, watching the stars vanish in the lightening sky.
James came downstairs a little while later, hair a mess and t-shirt rumpled. He sat down next to her and she leaned into him, grateful for the warmth from his body seeping into hers. He wrapped his arm around her and they watched in silence as the sun rose over the horizon.
The war was looming, but at least they still had love.
