Author's Note: This story is based off of an idea I had after I read the story Let The Flames Begin by sweetrupturedlight, which anyone who is a fan of Hayley and Elijah should go and read immediately, you won't regret it. Also, this is not a story where I'm just rewriting the series over again and adding my OC character into the Vampire Diaries' story lines; there will be no moonstones, sacrifices, or sire bonds, this story is basically as AU as possible because Damon won't be in Mystic Falls bar a few times which means that everything that has happened on the show either doesn't happen at all or happens differently in this story. Does that make sense? I hope it does.

Disclaimer: I own nothing, I simply came up with the idea for this story and my OC character, Mia.

I

Through The Window To You

Damon didn't mean to go into the little café, he had just been walking past it on his way to Billy's when something in the window made him stop.

Not something, someone, a young woman. And she hadn't even been doing anything besides pouring coffee into a cup, smiling at her customer as he thanked her for the refill, but for some reason it had captivated Damon, for reasons he would never really know why.

He couldn't tear his eyes away from her, drinking in the way her eyes would light up whenever she smiled, a dimple appearing in her left cheek; staring unabashedly, shamelessly at her for what seemed like hours as he memorized the dark color of her long, thick hair, how her skinny, pale, freckled figure moved when she stood tall to rake a hand through her hair or bent down to write an order on her little notepad, the way her smile was a little crooked...

He stood like that, completely still except for his bright, flickering blue eyes, which were burning a hole through the window as he stared at the beautiful waitress while she spoke with her customer, as he drank his dark, steaming coffee. He just couldn't seem to look away, or walk away, from her, there was just something about her... Finally Damon did move, but it wasn't away from the woman in the café, but towards her.

Screw Billy's, he thought as he walked into the little café, because as much fun a night of booze, blood, and women always was, there was something about this girl that made him want stay, change things up and do something different.

If only he had known then just how much his life, he as a person, would change because of that one little decision...
