"Take anything good off her?" Lee demanded.
Rolling eyes, the prison tech slid forward a barren cardboard box. "Not much for personal effects on this one."
"Hey," Lee said, "This one is super competent. It's not like she'd be carrying around photos of her cat."
"See for yourself."
Lee reached in to the box. "Nice knife." He whistled. "Surprised I didn't get that stuck in me."
"Thought she doesn't hurt people."
"Yeah well until yesterday you thought she didn't get caught. Anything else?"
"Only this locket."
"Huh." Lee lifted the jewelry and looked at it from a couple of sides. "Weird." He used the pocket knife to pry it open, not particularly carefully but without damaging it."
The other officer raised eyebrows. "Mean anything to you?"
Laughing Lee announced. "Everything means something to me." He made a face. "Doesn't mean it means anything useful." He dropped it back into the box and made to leave.
"Should I lock it up?"
"Eh. She gets loose, you've got bigger problems. Worry about the locks you have on her cell."
Hawaii 1990s
"Hey Jen, help me check in this stuff."
"Sure, what's it for?"
"Personal effects for Carmen Sandiego."
The second guard rolled her eyes. "No wonder you want a second witness!"
"Yeah you know how those out of town agency detectives always get with barging in and wanting to double check everything."
"Been there." Jen sighed. "Alright, what have we got?"
Reaching for the first item, the guard declared. "The most impressive pocket knife I have ever seen."
"One pocket knife."
"One locket, with picture of an unknown woman inside."
The carbon copy form recorded in triplicate. "Locket. Got it."
"One set of dogs tags with medical alert engravings."
Jen raised her eyebrows. "Seriously?
"Yeah. Looks like she's healthy though. Blood type AB-negative and allergic to wasp stings."
"Anything on the other side?"
"Just 'if found return to…' isn't that the address for the San Franciso agency office?"
"Yeah."
"Oh fun."
"Should we tell them?"
The honest answer, "I'd... rather not."
