What Am I Ought To Be?

Using a poem as a means of reflecting upon Itachi's desire to understand his role in his own society, where everyone has their own fixed destiny- to live and to die.

Note: This is merely a poem INSPIRED by Itachi's intriguing yet compelling thoughts.

To my glorious days on the battlefield

Shouldering all my nation's suffering

Protecting hopes and dreams of the future

But failing to protect my own desires

Now, what am I ought to be?

My Knees cracking, skin's burning, back aching

All against the struggle for starvation

Feeding the nation through my sweat and tears

But can't harvest my own self-fulfillment

Now, what am I ought to be?

A cook, a nurse, a teacher, a woman

I am to be a vessel for childbirth

Loving and nurturing my own children

Forcefully letting my own dreams vanish

Now, what am I ought to be?

Destiny, the biggest repugnant lie

Acting like the goddess of the fake sky

Controlling life as if it was her pawn

Mastering the art of being a con

Now, what am I ought to be?
