He looked at her over his charms spell book. Wow, she was beautiful. Her long blonde hair had waves like the ocean on a summer's day and her blue eyes were like the sky—not clear blue, but with parts of white through them, as if they were clouded over. He couldn't believe it when she had actually asked him if he wanted to go feed thestrals with him. This would be a dream come true for Neville Longbottom. His first sort of date with a girl. Not just any girl either, Luna Lovegood, the most spectacular, amazing, gorgeous, albeit weird girl he had ever met.
"You ready?" Luna asked him with wide eyes after charms had finished.
"Of course!" He replied, had charms finished already? He looked at his empty note paper. Oh well, he'd get them of Hermione Granger later.
And off they went, into the Forbidden Forrest to go find the creatures. Luna pulled out some meat for them and all of a sudden, they appeared. Neville couldn't help but flinch at the sight of them but just moved over to Luna for comfort. She took his hand and smiled reassuringly at him.
"It's okay, Neville, they're harmless, see?" She held her hand out to one of the young ones, and it came to eat the little piece of raw steak out of her hand. Luna seemed so natural around them; it's as if they had a calming effect on her.
He saw her shivering, and put his knitted cardigan over her shoulders, and she smiled beautifully at him.
Neville, out of impulse slid his hand around her waist, pulled her towards him and kissed her, right on the lips.
It was strange, but in no way was it not nice, a bit like Luna, actually. Her lips were soft and parted slightly in surprise, and he was holding on to her like the world would end if he let go. As if connecting with that thought, when he pulled apart, there was an awful cry from one of the thestrals. Luna, obviously knowing what to expect, ran out of the forest, and Neville reluctantly followed, not wanting to leave this sanctuary where some real magic had just taken place. He jogged up behind her, and took her hand. They both stared at a hill, far away. Death Eaters. And a lot of them. They ran back to the castle, to prepare for the Battle Of Hogwarts to begin.
