Fatal Mistake

Disclaimer: I only own the narrator of this story. The rest of the characters belong to the geniuses behind Galavant. If I owned any of the characters, I'd write books or get a third season approved.

I thought dragons didn't exist, but…..

The smoke and dust filling the lungs of the townspeople argues otherwise. Sweltering fire as crimson as the blood of the dead and wounded rains down from the sky. As the piercing cry that sounds almost like a dinosaur mixed with a tiger fills the ears of me and the people around me, it descends. A wingspan of thirty, maybe even forty feet, captures my eyes first. The dragon's wings are a sandy brown, much like the color of the dirt on the nearby farm. His mouth- I'm positive the dragon's male- is filled with nearly sixty jagged, cracked, and powerful teeth that waist inside the gigantic, crushing jaws. I take a step backwards, wanting to get as far away from the giant beast from my nightmares as fast as I can. I make one fatal mistake.

I fall.

Unbeknownst to me, there was a small rock right behind my feet. Unaware of this small, yet deadly, trap, I run straight into it. Within seconds, the dragon's beady yellow eyes are directly on my cowering body. My shoulder aches from falling on it and the wind has been knocked out of me. For a minute, I actually believe dragons are like dinosaurs: if I don't move, the dragon won't see me. Not the case in this instance. Flinging himself at me, the dragon bellows harshly. It's then that I notice the human riding on the dragon's back. I do a quick double-take.

I didn't imagine it.

There, sitting calmly on the dragon, is a man with a regal air about him. A crown sits on top of his slowly greying dark brown hair and he holds a sword in one hand. It is the king, my king to be exact. The last I had heard, he died in a war or ran away with a maiden from another realm.

Rumors never are the same twice.

I blink once and I realize it's my last one.

The last sound I hear is the king yelling: "Onward, Tad Cooper! Let's rain destruction and death on their wives and kids!"

Author's Note: Hello, my dear readers! Yes, I know this entry is way shorter than all of my other work, but I wrote this a few months ago in ten minutes during my school's writing club. We had ten minutes to write our dragon story and then had ten minutes for the entire club to read our work. So, I thought I would finally get around to posting it on FanFiction. Let's just say no one in my club knew who Tad Cooper or King Richard are. Oh, and this was originally written with second person pronouns, but since this site bans stories like that, you'll have to go back and change all the first person pronouns to 'you' if you want to get the real effect of the story. It's more terrifying that way, I think. Well, that's all I have to say except thank you for your support, my amazing readers! I hope to hear from you soon in either a review or a PM!
