Disclaimer: I don't own anything of Torchwood but I currently don't like the writers very much. I would have taken better care of everybody.
Note: I'm sure as you all guessed I finished Children of the Earth and it was a ride. It was exciting, fun, tense but above all sad. I don't know why they killed Ianto but it shouldn't have happened. They've destroyed everything and made Jack leave the earth *growls*. *Takes deep breath* anyway, this is my contribution to the Jack after Ianto's death stories. Let's begin.
Title: The world has ended
Timeline: Takes place after Day 5 of Children of the Earth.
Summary: Jack knows when his world ended.
Pairing: Jack Harkness/ Ianto Jones.
Why?
That was the one question Jack couldn't answer, the very reason he couldn't look anybody in the eye anymore.
It was the reason why he left the Earth behind. The small planet that was filled with so many memories, so many places that haunted him now.
Because how could you explain to somebody that you were cold and empty inside? How would you explain that you couldn't bring yourself to care about ending their world when hours ago your own world had just ended abruptly?
Why should it matter to him that somebody else was suffering? He was numb inside. His feeling has died, just as his reason for living had.
The feelings would come back, he knew. The nights would come when he was in bed, screaming and alone, wishing for arms that would never again hold him.
And why should it matter that he had so cruelly snuffed out his grandson's life? Ianto's life had been snuffed out as well, ripped away from Jack.
Time had been stolen that should have been theirs. And for all the lifetimes he had lived and would live, he would never get this life, the life he wanted to live with Ianto. He would never get to live this life!
And why should he care that his daughter hated him for killing her son? He hated himself! He hated himself for allowing this to happen. He hated himself for never thanking Ianto for all that he had done for Jack.
He hated himself for never being there for Ianto, for never having the courage to confide in Ianto. But above all, he hated himself for making this beautiful man believe that Jack could ever forget him, as if Jack could ever forget Ianto.
But perhaps most of all, Jack Harkness hated himself for never taking the time to tell Ianto Jones that he loved him, until it was too late.
That was the thing when you had forever, you never took the time for the little things, the important things and you then had forever to live with the consequences of your actions and the guild.
But even that didn't matter anymore because as Jack sped away from the Earth, his world had ended like so many other worlds. They were small worlds in the grand scheme of things but they were big and important worlds to every person whose world had ended.
But Jack had his sanctuary, his dream world, in his mind where Ianto was alive. It may not be the real world but truthfully who gave a damn in what reality you sought solace after your world ended? Only those who had their perfect worlds with their happiness right there and then would give a damn, the rest, and the people who knew the loss certainly did not. They know the pain.
You were the person that had to live in that world and Jack knew he wanted to spend all his time in his fantasy world. And Jack Harkness was a very lucky man because if there was one thing that Jack had, it was time. If nothing else, it was all he had left because his world had ended when Ianto Jones did but Jack would follow his lover one day.
He would find a way, because according to his daughter, no matter the sacrifice, he always did, even when the world ended.
The end.
I hope you liked it. Not so sure if I like the ending though but tell me what you think.
