Charis groans as she comes back to consciousness. Her entire body aches from the full moon. No matter how many of them she goes through, it never gets any better. It seems that the werewolf trapped inside her body rages all night until it's beleaguered, but without any human to attack, it turns it's anger on her.
She curses the werewolf that bit her a year ago. Stumbling up the stairs, she is looking forward to the pain potion and chocolate in her kitchen, thankful that Caspar keeps to himself as much as she keeps to herself. She downs the blood replenishing potion first, knowing that she's lost a fair bit of blood throughout the night. After that's done, she picks up her wand to heal the wounds scattered across her body, hissing as they close. It never becomes any less painful.
She hears something hit the ground. Turning, she sees her oldest sister in the doorway. Charis watches her sister's dark eyes widen with shock. She curses herself for not telling her house-elf that she wasn't to have any visitors; Callidora rarely stops by, after all.
"You're hurt," Callidora chokes out after too long of a pause. "Why are you hurt?"
She feels her sister's eyes cataloguing all of the wounds. Her cheeks heat as she realizes her state of undress. She quickly pulls on the dress she's left before her transformation, grimacing as it rubs against the cuts. She takes the pain potion before reassuring Callidora, "I'm fine."
"Is — is he hurting you, Charis?" her sister asks bewildered.
"No, I promise he isn't," Charis says firmly. When her sister doesn't look convinced, she adds, "Our marriage isn't like yours. We don't love each other, that much is true, but he hasn't laid a hand on me."
Callidora frowns. "Would you tell me if he was?"
Even though it's a lie, she says, "Of course I would."
"Then why are you hurt?"
Charis breathes in sharply. She has kept this secret for over a year because she knows how Purebloods view werewolves. But she looks at her sister and sees the same fire Cedrella's eyes held. Maybe her sister won't hate her.
She summons her house-elf, ordering it to make the pair of them breakfast. Callidora takes the seat opposite of her, waiting patiently for Charis' explanation.
She sits down gingerly, a wave of pain washing over her, and starts to explain.
