It had only been a few sad months since Miss Miller had passed away. During those moments, The Chipettes' life had been a mess.
Now, it was only three days until Christmas. Normally, this time would be a time to feel joyous. To have a warm feeling in your heart that can hardly be explained. To sing songs, buy presents, bake in the household, and to spend dear time with the ones you care about
Brittany and Eleanor tried to put aside some of their feelings to make the best of the holiday season. But it was very hard for Jeanette.
To her, Christmas would never seem the same without her adoptive mother. All the wonderful occasions were just memories now. Memories that were hard to relive just because a special puzzle piece is missing from them.
Jeanette spent a lot of her time alone to mourn quietly. Of course, her friend Simon had been very concerned about her. Even when she attempted to hide it, he knew how devastated her internal feelings endured.
Now, as he clutched a box in his right hand, the chipmunk was looking for her. Jeanette wasn't home, so Simon tried the other places she liked to go to, but there was no use.
It wasn't until he came across the old church. Jeanette was sitting on the bottom of the steps, lips scrunched.
Simon went over and sat down next to her. He patted her shoulder, and she gazed at him.
"Hello Jeanette," he greeted, removing his hand from her shoulder.
"Hi, Simon." Jeanette sniffed, trying to keep the tears from rolling in. She was just about to cry, but when her friend showed up, she didn't want him to see her like this. To Jeanette, it would've been too embarrassing.
The chipmunk held out the box, trying to collect his words. He wanted to present his gift in a way that wouldn't upset her.
"Jeanette," Simon uttered, "I know things have been a little..er… immensely rough on you. Believe me, I know. And, I am also aware that it's not even Christmas yet, but I wanted to give you your present early."
"My present?" the chipette peeped, her eyes growing with expression.
"Yes, your present."
Jeanette had a tiny smile that was hard to notice. She took the box, and a minute to admire it. It was very nicely wrapped with light blue paper designed with white snowflakes. A sticker tag was also next to the ribbon that was tied. She read his neat, cursive writing.
To: Jeanette
Love, Simon
Love. He had signed the tag with love of all words. Not that this was a bad thing, though. Jeanette wanted to know what he meant by it. Maybe in a friendly way, or maybe a somewhat romantic way. Did he have feelings for her as she did for him?
Anyway, she unwrapped the gift. Lying in it was a small box with a jewelry brand in the center.
She opened the lid, and inside was a beautiful bracelet.
She was speechless out of happiness. She was very content with her gift. And not out of materialism.
She was glad to know that she had a good friend by her side. One that is there and cares about her, especially with her emotions, both pleasant and not-so-pleasant.
And she hoped it would always remain that way.
Jeanette looked back at Simon. "Thank you," she whispered, wrapping him in a hug.
"You're very welcome," he returned, doing the same.
After a while, the hug ended, and Simon stood up.
"I think Theo's making some hot chocolate. Do you want some?"
"I'd love some."
And so, the two chipmunks walked hand in hand off onto the decorated streets, with the bracelet clipped to Jeanette's wrist, and fuzziness clipped to Simon's heart.
A/N: Well, I hope you've enjoyed this story! I had to get something out there for the holidays...so I'd really appreciate the praise. I actually had this idea for a long time, even before I made an account here.
I hope everybody has a safe and happy holiday!
