Chapter I: On the road

"Who can say where the road goes.

Where the day flows, only time."

Eveleen's POV

"My point exactly," I stated to my other two year old baby girl, when she let out a small lamenting noise from the backseat of the car, " This isn't where I want to be either. I'd rather be at home with your father." I was on the road back to home after I'd visited at my grandparents, John Big Bear Elliot and his wife. I had done the trip twice since I got married with Gideon, once with him and our twin daughters Willow and Noelle and now with the twins only. Gideon was forced to stay at Virginia because he'd gotten a new job just few months ago.

"Well Noelle, I think I have to call to daddy and let him know that we're not gonna be home tonight," I said to my other daughter and dug my cell from my bag.

"Gideon," my husband answered to his cell. A warm feeling engulfed me every time when I heard that voice and so it did now.

"Hello Jason."

"Hello doll face. Where are you?"

"Where am I? I'm in the middle of nowhere with one, "I said to Gideon," No, make that two somewhat cranky toddlers and my car just broke down," I added when I heard Willow join her twin sister in whining.

"Poor baby," he said with warm laugh in his voice," So, you won't be coming home tonight."

"I'm afraid not," I confirmed when I wave of nausea suddenly hit me. I had to swallow for a while so that I wouldn't have puked on my cell. Luckily, Gideon didn't notice it.

"Well, I'd be miserable company anyhow tonight."

"Tough case, huh?"

"I'm not sure I should tell it to you. I don't want to shock you, "my husband said cautiously.

"Uh-oh," I said, sensing something from Gideon's voice," So BAU-tough case?"

"Yeah doll face," Gideon said, sighing. I heard him sweep his hand over his face, as he did every time when he was tired.

"I'm sorry honey. But I'll be home tomorrow, so if you want to lighten your heart, I'm ready to listen then," I consoled. I knew how tough these kinds of cases were to Gideon. I always knew what kind of case he was handling, when he came home at nights.

"Mmhmm," came from the other side of the line.

"You have that look in your face right now," I knew he liked the way I always predicted how he looked like even when I didn't see him. But this time, he didn't.

"What look?" and I knew the case was really bad.

"The BAU-look. Jaded, crestfallen. Somehow stagnant."

"That's because this world has gone insane. And every time I sit behind my desk, I see a picture of you and the twins. I have to watch in your eyes and in the eyes of Willow and Noelle!" Gideon suddenly yelled as if he'd be the one who'd gone insane.

"I'm sorry Jason, did I say something wrong?" I whispered. I was really surprised by this emotional eruption.

"No, you didn't say anything wrong. It's completely wrong that you are. That Willow and Noelle are."

"Oh my universe, have you gone mad Jason? That doesn't make any sense. That I am and Willow and Noelle are. Are what?"

"I'm sorry Ev," he said.

"What? Gideon?" but that I said to an empty line. Gideon had hung up.

"Mommy's having second thoughts about going to home tomorrow," I explained to my now calmed daughters while calling to road service. When the service arrived, I asked them to take me to the nearest cheap hotel. It looked nice and safe so once I'd fed Willow and Noelle, I put them to bed and fell asleep too.

A/N I know Gideon is bit out of character but it's necessary, this story needs it in this situation.
