The small Canadian stumbled through the the deserted field, the grass either burnt or no longer existent. The sound of guns had stopped long ago and so had the bombs. The little field in which he would spend his days with his older 'brother' Norway now scorched and ruined.
Mathew coughed from the smoke in the air, his small lungs struggling to get enough fresh air. He could feel a trickle of warm blood run from his forehead and down his cheek. The small boy continued on, confused of what had happened to his sanctuary, one moment he had been with Norway and the next there was sudden gun fire and bright blazing fire.
His clothes were torn and bloodied and he was missing his shoes, his feet black from the burnt ground around him. Mathew then stopped, noticing something in the distance. It looked somewhat like a figure on the ground. His curiosity peaked and he made his way forward coming to a stop a mere few feet form the other and let out a soft gasp. The body before him was one of an adult, covered in cuts and bruises, blood seeping and surrounding him, in his hand was a small gun the other was Mathews blanket. Norway.
The small boy feel to his knees beside the adult, letting the tears slip down his cheeks, "N-Norway?" Mathew said quietly, unsure if the other was alive or not. The other did not move. Did not speak. Did not breathe. Mathew chocked back a sob as he shook the other, "W-wake up…. N-norway sil vous plait wake up," He continued to cry as the Nordic did not move, his eyes closed, his face peaceful, aside from the blood stain on his cheek.
Suddenly the thunder cracked and rain began to fall, extinguishing the lasting fire in the field around them. Tears splattered on the two countries, washing away their blood. Sniffling Mathew picked up his blanket and placed it on Norway's chest before laying his head on the older Nations chest as well, the tears continuing to stream down his cheeks. With another sob he closed his eyes and held on tight to the other, hoping sleep would arrive and relieve him of his pain.
The rain continued to pelt down around them. Mathew didn't care, he only sniffled and held on tighter, as he wished for yesterday.
