Disclaimer: I don't own Heroes of Olympus
I was seven years old when Leo Valdez came to camp.
I never really thought much about it except maybe hoping that he'd stop whatever kept happening to the machines. He was only there a while before he was making me laugh and being the best brother I could have had since Beckendorf.
But he left on a quest the very next day and camp became this lonely place again.
When he came back I was overjoyed to see him again. He spent the night in our cabin and marched us through the woods the next day to show us Bunker 9.
He conjured fire in his hand revealing he was a fire user, the first in four hundred years. But it took me years to truly understand how big of a deal this meant.
All too soon we were preparing for another Great Prophecy. Being the youngest I mainly did small tasks like cut wood and gather supplies, but Leo made it sound important.
And then we were done and Leo had to leave. No one had told me he was going, although I think I knew all along. He told me the night before.
After that we were at war. Again being so young I didn't do much fighting and did more repairing and building. The battle was quick though, because two half-bloods and a satyr brought a giant statue of Athena.
Then I realized we were so close to winning and finally seeing Leo again. And days later I saw the Argo Two in the air.
I was the first one to its landing spot, eagerly awaiting Leo. Six demigods got off, but none were Leo.
Leo's best friend Piper came up to me. She said Leo had talked a lot about me and told her stories.
She spoke in the past tense.
Unlike the Titan War most half-bloods were far from danger in this war. So far, there was only one fatality.
But that one fatality sent all of Camp Half-Blood into mourning, none more than Cabin 9. I barely ate or slept for weeks.
Soon I moved into the bunk of that one fatality. No one said anything, but I think they all felt sorry for me more than themselves.
This was the third time I'd slept in this bunk.
The first time a prank from the Stolls had forced everyone to share a room and I'd stayed with Beckendorf.
The second time I spent the last night Leo stayed at Camp Half-Blood with him after a nightmare. I had dreamt that Leo had died and I never saw him again.
When I told him that he had looked me in the eye and said something I'd never forget.
"When I go tommorow, I can't promise you'll see me again. But I can promise I will fight for you Harley. I will never stop fighting until I know you're safe."
I was glad he hadn't promised to come back, because then he would've broken his promise, and I hate when people do that.
Before Leo came here the Hephaestus Cabin was mourning a counselor.
After he left, they were doing the same thing again.
