It was true that there were other worlds and other dimensions that had yet to be explored, but one magician knew for certain that he wouldn't return to his world because he had been tied to two other worlds, only these were both physical and only in dreams. He had felt as if he had been trapped for his entire life and yet he felt another that let him wander to where he wished to travel to, to another world, if you may.
Somehow it seemed to tie back to him and his inability to accept his past. He refused to see that he was someone who deserved to live and not to be ostracized by the people in his homeland, the place where he never wanted to return to, where he would hand over a death sentence to the one who cared for him when all hope seemed lost.
The magician knew that he didn't have a choice in the matter, whether he was chosen to be cursed or to be free of the infliction that was made by the scars of his past, the scars that never seemed to heal. The scars would only remind him that he would only be hurt if he were to cross with another, if they had become too close. He would lead them astray with his smile and pretend that he would be all right, only to truly know that he was shattered in the inside.
In many cases no one would be the wiser to his otherwise sunny disposition; they would be perfect fools, believing that the wizard was indeed a happy individual. There were the special few who could see beyond his façade though, the steel warrior Kurogane being one of them. He was quick to deduce that Fai was not the person that he claimed to be on the outside, and he pressed his questions about his past as many times as he could, even though his questions were often avoided.
Fate had held him to darkness for as long as he can remember, from when he received the two curses from the master known as Fei Wong Reed when he was young, too young to see blood spill and too young to lose everything. He was a pawn in the master's game, being used to kill someone stronger than him, and to destroy the place of his birth, where he was ripped away from being naïve and happy and where he was thrown into madness stemming from the very notion of his existence.
In the very fiber of his existence, Fai had known that he was someone who would always be tied to another, such as his deceased twin brother, his eternal ruler King Ashura, the soldier Kurogane. But he had never imagined being tied, being connected to someone like Xing Huo. She was mysterious in the deepest sense of the word. She was manipulative. She was calculating. The distances seen in her eyes were immeasurable, fathomless. She was one to show him that he was pure, even when he had spilled the blood of many due to his existence, and she gave him feelings he had never felt that were not of pain, but the beautiful agony that was pleasure.
The magician was in between two worlds, one that held his salvation, that being with the archeologist, the princess, the white creature and the warrior, all bound by the Dimensional Witch and her vision of inevitability. The other, the world that held the guillotine over his neck if he didn't accept his fate, was corrupt and bound him to his past, chaining him and forcing him to shed more crimson upon holy grounds. The world held him and introduced him to a lovely martyr who gave herself to him with her seductive wiles, which he accepted with great hesitation.
Yes, the mage was between two worlds and he can only reside in one, only one. He would make that choice, and either one will ultimately leave a shadow of doubt and permanence in what is left in his life, one that surely end if the full moon does not come to pass.
