This is just another test, Willow tried to remind herself as she sat outside meditating.

Another contraction hit and she rode it like a wave, though not without a slight grimace.

She heard Oz's voice in her head from that night he came back. Embracing his wolfness as part of his wholeness kept the wolf from manifesting outwardly and controlling him. There was no "Other" and therefore no "Self". Or something like that.

Wait, was that it?

The pain shot through her again, threatening her concentration.

Don't attach to it. Just let it happen around you.

Except, no, there are root systems and connections and all that stuff. That's something she could definitely feel and see. Hell, she's gone beyond conjuring now. When she's alone, Willow brings forth things. Not stuff that she invented. No, it's stuff that exists, maybe not knowing it already exists, but it comes forth. Flowers bloom. The pea sprouts climb and thrive.

But thinking of this did the opposite of what Willow had wanted. She could feel the blood flowing now. It reminded her of Kayla from the pseudo-Wicca group at school. Kayla and her "free bleeding" movement that she swore was the manifestation of blood magicks. Tara always giggled over it like it was their personal in-joke, and now Willow saw the sweet witch's face in her mind, blushing with smiles.

When the next throb of pain hit, she could bear it then.

"28 days of power hidden," Tara's voice echoed as she used Kayla's words and cadence. "Now, released!"

There was a silly and pretentious arm gesture that went along with the phrases, and the image of Tara performed them as well.

Willow laughed through the next cramp, and then through the one after, and then again, until they were fully gone.
