Blood Ties and Blood Eyes

Her blood red eyes gazed into his own matching eyes as the silence fell upon them. He wished a pin would drop, the moron's loud and obnoxious voice, anything to break the pounding emptiness. Finally, he could not stand it any longer and broke the silence between them.
"Yukina?"
She started, as if waking up from a dream, and opened her mouth to talk, but nothing came out.
"What?" he asked quietly.
"You never told me?" she whispered.
He winced at the question, but mentally scolded himself for doing so. He knew that question was inevitable, and now he had to face it.
"All this time, and you never told me?" she asked again, a little louder this time, finally finding her voice as she tried to decipher the dark depths of his eyes. Her eyes. The eyes that they had shared since birth.
"Why would you want me as a brother?" he asked, breaking their gaze and staring now at nothing in particular.
"Why wouldn't I? I love you. How could I not love my brother?" she pleaded with him, trying to get him to understand. 'I can't hate him. He is me in every way. Why can't he accept that?'
He turned around, back now to her, and spoke, "I'm a criminal, an ex- convict , a murderer, a thief, and you still love me?"
"Hiei." she sighed and wrapped her arms around his waist, leaning her head on his back. He stiffened at the unfamiliar, yet comforting, touch. "You're my brother, and nothing will ever change that. Just accept that, and my love." She whispered into his back.
"Yukina.I.I've." he relaxed, and Yukina loosed her grip just enough to let him turn around and face her. "I've never felt this way, and it's strange to me. But for you, I will accept it, and I promise that I will never let anything happen to you, not if I can help it."
"Thank you, my brother," She gave him a squeeze, and released him. "And give Kazuma a chance. I do like him very much."
Hiei sighed and nodded. "I will try to control myself around him, but if he does anything.."
Yukina giggled and smiled her cute little smile. Hiei felt his heart melt as her smile grew and he then realized what love really was, what it really meant. "I will make sure Kazuma behaves himself." She giggled again and backed away a step.
"You better go, Genkai."
"She'll understand with the circumstances," Hiei blushed a little at this statement, making Yukina giggle again. "I'm sure she won't mind."
"Be careful then. Bye," he hesitated, but managed to let the unfamiliar word escape his lips, "sister."
Yukina waved goodbye and walked with her unmatched grace down the path as she made he way to Genkai's temple. "Goodbye, my dear brother."
Hiei watched as her small figure slowly disappeared amongst the trees, and sighed. "No, dear sister. I will never let anyone hurt you, because I love you, and nothing can change that. I know that now."
The wind blowed, and in a wisp of black, Hiei vanished, disappearing to wherever he wished, but always watching her. Yes, forever watching her.
