She loved to see him sleep. She was the only person who could find him at his apartment at night and look into his window after dark. She was the only person who could travel miles in minutes without worrying about obstacles or taking the time to walk. Instead, she flew her now familiar route to the tall building a few miles north of the carnival location. She hung from the windowsill above his as she pondered what he dreamt about both the nights where he laid peacefully and the nights where he seemed restless.
This was not the only place she traveled to at night. She loved the sights of the other houses and businesses, and the few stars that peered through the lights of the city. But she would always stop for a minute or two to gaze at him in his most innocent state.
The fact that she was the only one with this privilege was special to her, even if he knew nothing about it.
Each night, she longed to be closer to him. She wanted to be around when he woke up, but she knew that would be impossible. He didn't know she was there, and she had to keep it that way.
Devil Zukin arrived one rather warm night to find that Rage left his window wide open to let air in. That was her chance.
She grabbed onto the ledge outside and pulled herself into his room. There he was, on his back, eyes gently shut, hair ruffled across his pillow, with one arm over his chest. Rage's blanket had been discarded on the floor, and he only wore an average-fitting pair of old gray pants.
Unfazed by his lack of attire, Zukin was drawn into his face more than anything. He was always an active, strong, and loud person during the day, yet at night, Rage was as harmless and quiet as a sleeping child. And like a child, he really did look cute.
She smiled and cautiously walked closer. Her smile faded subconsciously as her desires for him rose. She knew the closer she got, the more she would want, yet she proceeded despite the risk of regretting her actions.
Silently, Zukin stepped to the left side of his bed. He was facing her and still showed no sign of waking.
Could she really pull this off?
Zukin carefully knelt by the side of his bed without making a sound, and she stared into his closed eyes. She was so captivated by him that she stopped thinking entirely, and she allowed her face to inch closer to his.
When near enough, she closed her eyes and laid a kiss on his lips, so gentle that the heavy sleeper didn't notice.
A second later, she parted from him reluctantly. She sat back and waited for a reaction, but there was none. She stood up and casually yet quietly walked out of the room and climbed out the window.
During her flight, she reflected on her conflicting thoughts. Zukin was in a daze; she finally kissed the target of her affection, more sure than ever that she was in love with him. Yet the kiss that caused her emotions to sway and her mind to swirl meant nothing to him, as she would forever be the only one to know about it.
