"Underneath It All"

Author's note: This is my first fanfic ever so please let me know how I do, BE HONEST! This story is centered on Dr. Dave Malucci. It takes place after season 7, so Dave never got fired from County. This is just the first chapter, I just wanted to throw the idea out there. I'll write more if you seem to like it. All Dave's thoughts are in italics.

"Malucci! Malucci where the hell are you?" Kerry's annoyingly loud voice echoed through the halls of the ER. Dave awoke from his sleep and looked groggily at the clock that was sitting on the table next to the gurney he was.or had been sleeping on. The clock read 11:15 am. Dave groaned, he still had another four hours and forty-five minutes of his shift left. God I shouldn't have gone to that party last night he thought. One of his buddies had decided to throw a spur-of-the-moment party last night and Dave, being the fun-loving guy he is, had not been about to refuse. Now he was really regretting his decision; he hadn't gotten home until three that morning and his shift had started at seven, leaving him with three hours of sleep. Dave stumbled out of the curtain area and into the admit area. He glanced at the board and selected a random chart out of the pile. "Wow Dave, fun night?" Carter raised his eyebrows and stared at the dark circles and dazed look on Dave's face. "Hey Carter, yea I didn't get much sleep if ya know what I mean." Dave shot Carter a grin and arched his eyebrows. Carter chuckled and shook his head "Carter, Dave, get over here!" Kerry shouted as she was running along side a gurney. "What'd we got?" asked Carter. "Approximately 55 year old female bruising all over, unconscious but breathing, possible cracked rib, the neighbor heard screams and found her abandoned in her house, says the husband has a history of abuse." "Truney order a head CT and clear." Dave stopped in mid sentence as he looked down at the victim. "Dave, what's wrong" asked Carter. "It's..it's my mother."
