I got this idea after watching the movie again. I don't think I realized until then how much I loved Silas...Go figure. Enjoy! I don't own Silas (CURSE REALITY! . ) or Da Vinci Code, nor do i make money off of them, yadda yadda yadda...
He thought, no, truly wished, that he would die.
He had failed the bishop, his mission, the teacher, himself. He had broken the promise he made to his mother. He had no reason to go on living. He wanted to die. As he began to feel the shadows closing in around him, they were pierced by a light and a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
"Silas," whispered a feminine voice. Her voice was close, as if she was kneeling just beside him. "Try not to move." He thought he felt an implausible lukewarm flame against the gunshot wound, and, like it had never been, it was gone, healed away.
Putting his thoughts into words, he asked, "Who are you?"
He could almost hear her smile as she replied, "A friend." She pulled his arm around her shoulders and put an arm around his waist, helping him to stand. He did not resist, in fact, he was happy with a shoulder to rest his weary head on. He felt her smile once more.
"Is that a cilice belt?" She inquired suddenly. Before he could answer, she said, "Dude, you're gonna kill yourself with things like that!" Then, just as she finished, he felt it disappear, and the wounds beneath healed. Strangely, he did not mind.
As she began to guide him along, one word passed his lips: "Why?"
Another smile. "Because our God is a god of second chances."
Yes, that's from the Veggie tales movie. So sue me. Please be kind, I wrote this in five minutes.
