As the sun bounced off the walls of the Parthenon, Annabeth laced her fingers through Percy's. His had was a bit sweaty, like it always was before he was going to do something nerve-wracking, it's how he always was right before a battle. She took a moment to remember their first adventure together when they first met Hades - his palms were sweaty then too. They climbed the old stairs of the worn down structure, workers were walking away after a long day of reconstruction - nodding at the couple as they passed. Annabeth sighed, it had been 3 years since her and Percy had fallen down to Tartus and been rescued by the others and not a day went by that Annabeth didn't hold Percy's hand.
"Where are we going?" she now realized that they were directly facing the sunset, Percy was breath heavily, and his palms were just as sweaty as before - if not more.
"Annabeth, I love you. You know that right?" Percy faced her with his blue eyes becoming green with the reflection of the yellow sunset.
"Yes Percy. I do." Her eyebrows were raised and her eyes widened as Percy took a deep breath and, all the time looking into her gray eyes, lowered himself down on one knee.
"Then Annabeth Chase, there's just one thing left to say." His face was a mask of happiness, "I love you, I have always loved you and I always will and -", at this his eyes bore into hers with such an intensity that Annabeth began to tear up, "I want to build something permanent. And I want to build it with you." He opened a black velvet box and presented her with a ring. It was small, and the stone in the middle was blue - the same blue and his eyes.
She was silent.
"Annabeth? Are you okay?" Percy gently placed his hands on her shoulders.
Her bright gray eyes met his worried blue ones. "Everything is perfect." She stood on her toes and pulled him into a earth shattering kiss. His hands made their way around her waist and held her close.
As they pulled away for air, she grinned at him.
"So is that a yes?" Percy whispered nervously, his lips close to her ear.
"Yes Seaweed Brain. A million times yes. We will build something permanent. Together."
As the sun set over the hills in the distance, Annabeth and Percy held each other, happy that they were ready for their own forever.
