So, I was browsing the XME stories and got the idea to do yet ANOTHER fic. Based on a song by Mr. Jonny Diaz, who is a favorite. His music is freaking amazing.

Unless you don't like upbeat, encouraging, Jesus-loves-you stuff.

But I do, and he's my new favorite.

And I thought maybe I could do a fic based on one (or more) of his songs.

Actually, with what's in my head right now, I may end up A) making this into a multi-chapter fic, each chap a song or B) turning this into a series. I dunno, I'll have to figure it out later.

Neither XME nor Jonny Diaz belong to me. Although I'm hoping to buy/receive Jonny Diaz's CDs eventually…

'Cause I'm not like those other guys that just hit on you and feed you lines.

Girl I can almost guarantee that when you look at me you see the kind of man that's in your dreams and wants to give you everything.

--From Jonny Diaz's "Other Guys"

He wasn't like the rest of the teenage boys she knew.

Granted, she knew him better because they lived with each other, but still.

He was different.

And not just in the "he's a mutant" way.

He had been like a brother to begin with, but they'd grown closer over the years, through conversations, Danger Room sessions, and missions.

They had each other's backs.

Over time, somehow, their bond grew stronger. Their relationship changed from siblings to best friends.

He wasn't like the other guys at school, the ones who used corny, pathetic pick-up lines that no girl in her right mind should ever fall for.

He was sweet, caring and funny.

Sure, he could be annoying, but wasn't that normal?

Actually, if she was totally honest with herself, she didn't mind the annoyances. In fact, she enjoyed his antics: the pranks, the teasing, the chasing. They were endearing.

They were always together, always being asked by others if they were dating, and always contemplating taking the relationship further.

Eventually, they did. And she knew that they'd always be together, whether their relationship dwindled back down to friendship or turned into something deeper.

Because he was the kind of guy she could see herself marrying, or at least being friends with forever.

Notes: Eh. Odd ending, and probably not my favorite fic either, but it's an idea.

This was going to be just one pairing, but I ended up turning it into a "Guess who" type fic. I don't care who you see in it; I tried to keep it as neutral-ish as possible, so that it fit with every (het) pairing.

Now that I look at the lyrics to most of Jonny's songs, it seems only a few will fit. Unless, of course, I make them spiritual people. Which I could do. Just depends on inspiration, I guess. You could look up his songs on your own and suggest fics/pairing based on certain lines or full songs if you wanted. That'd be kinda cool.
