I got this random memory of the beach I went to with my granfather, and I just realised how many happy memories I'll have of him, regardless of the empty and bad ones. I'm sorry I never did say bye, Grandad, but.. y'know what? I love you. Damnit, I miss you too. Thanks for bringing my writing spirit back.

Waves

They're crashing and crashing upon the sand, pushing and shoving at sand castles and selfishly claiming their rights toward the yellow, warm textured sand. The foam expands forward, pushing into foot marks and holes children have dug.

So many memories here.

Naruto shuffles on the sun bed, pushing himself off of it and sitting on the wet sand, wondering what the water feels like on it's own. How it would feel or look without the presense of human's ruining it and destroying it's beauty.

He pushes his fingers into the sand and remembers the times he spent on beaches as a child; his brother and sister surrounding him. His grandfather and his grandmother sitting with his aunt and his uncle as he and his siblings are told to look over their cousins.

He smiles at the laughter in the distance as a small child tugs on her grandfather's shirt as he orders prawns. Naruto cringes. He never liked prawns, but his grandfather loved them - and had converted his sister Ino into their devilish ways. But he didn't mind; because it is just a memory now.

A very old one; that he never thought to think of again.

He remembers the small markets by the beaches, selling rubber sandals for those who found walking bare foot on the hot sand annoying. He remembers the ice cream sales and the constant begging he held over his grandparents. He remembers the large inside pool by the beach - a pointless establishment. He never did go in there.

He remembers the horses that trotted along the sand, a young person guiding the horse as his siblings and cousins rode them. Of course, he preferred the company of his grandparents and aunt and uncle. Imagining for just a small amount of time - that it was them. Just he and his family.

He remembers the shops they would visit after. Clothing stores, antique stores. Places that he enjoyed going.

He remembers the beautiful hill, and the beautiful statue they sat on; with the large candy shop beside it. He loved that shop - but he avoided it. He never did go in there a lot; but he remembers the smell and the look of the place. His mouth waters in anticipation for it.

He remembers, finally, the fare. The fun rides he and his grandfather went on. The old man never too old for anything. He remembers the promises and the love his grandfather gave him. He just remembers all of the photographs taken and wonders - what happened to those photographs?

He cannot remember the place's name; or where it is.

For now, he'll sit on this beach and remember. Because it brings back memories - happy (for once) - memories of his grandfather. Whom he misses and loves with each crashing wave.

Naruto smiles.

Because those waves are his only reassurance of remembering.
