A/N: My first Hunger Games FanFic about what Gale feels when Katniss kisses Peeta for the first time. Just a one-shot. R&R please!
Gale's P.O.V.
My fists slam against the brown, cracked walls of my home, so hard, but not hard enough to numb the pain screaming in my brain. Goddamnit! I look down at my bloodied knuckles and curse my stupidity. This will hinder my hunting, my hands are surely broken. Not that they are the only part of me broken…
The denial I was desperately hanging onto is gone. When that blond idiot confessed his love for Katniss, I saw the look on her face: complete shock. I had quickly searched her face for something else, like pain, disgust, anything. But all I found was the blush that travelled up her cheeks.
This night, I lock myself in my room and cry the first time since my father died. I think, is that why Katniss didn't love me? She is smart, she knew that door was open from the day my heart was. Did she think I wasn't man enough? Oh, like decorative-cake boy is. The most excruciating part is that she never completely closed it, just stood in front of it and refused to even acknowledge it. But I could have tried harder! And the second their lips touched, my heart stopped for a second. Just the second I took to turn away from the screen and pretend the wall was Peeta.
Prim's name is called. I hear Katniss cry out and run up to the stage. She takes Prim's place. Prim is screaming, sobbing. I see my hands reaching out and grabbing out and gently unhooking Prim from Katniss, returning her to her mother. When I look back up at the big screen, and there is Katniss, my Catnip, my best friend, and the girl I love. My mouth goes dry with the realization. What a convenient time to discover that fact.
Tough it out, I tell myself. You never tried, don't lie to yourself.
It's your own fault. She never closed the door. Katniss never did, because I only opened it in time to see her go through another one.
