Don't own anything.
This is kinda a companion Piece for Coming Home. Don't have to read them together but I do.
He managed to make it through the door with Catherine's help before collapsing. Barely but he made it so he'd count that as a success. Catherine watched from the door as he sat on the bench in the foyer, his head buried in his hands, Bruno made his way over and nosed under Grissom's arm. His eyes full of worry, silently asking where his mistress was.
Grissom buried his face in the dog's neck, taking comfort from him. Remembering the way Sara had begged Grissom to keep the dog.
God, Sara. His beautiful, smart, strong Sara.
Broken, unnaturally still. The rain pounding over her slim form as the car was lifted away.
The tears that he'd been unable to shed finally came. A torrent of tears flowing through the dirt and dust that still covered his face. He sobbed into Bruno's neck, not caring when Catherine sat down beside him.
"Gil, it'll be okay," she whispered to him, tears clogging her voice. "Just give it time," she said as she wrapped her arms around her friend.
"How can it be okay? This happened because of me! If we hadn't… if I'd just… then she'd be fine!" Gil shouted, reaching his breaking point.
"That's just stupid Gil," Catherine scolded, rising and standing in front of him, "Sara's been happier these past two years then I've ever seen her. She'd never trade it for anything and she'd slap you for blaming yourself if she could. It's not your fault, it's Natalie Davis's fault. Besides," she said gentling her voice as she sat beside him again and laid a supporting hand on his shoulder, "She'll be fine. You heard the doctor, exposure and dehydration. She'll be back home in a few days."
"You're right. Of course you're right. Sara will be okay. She's strong and Natalie is behind bars," Grissom said as he calmed down taking several deep breathes before he spoke again.
"Catherine? You, uh, did you hear anything else that the doctor said?" Suddenly getting nervous.
"No, why? Is something wrong?" She asked, sitting up abruptly, instantly shooting into concern.
"No, it's just that, at the hospital… She…they… it's… you see… I… we…" Grissom stuttered then took another deep breath before finally saying it, "Sara's pregnant."
"WHAT?" She yelled, jumping up from the bench to stand before him. "How pregnant? How long have you known? Is the baby going to be okay?"
"We didn't know… At the hospital, the doctor must have thought we knew. He said… the baby's going to be fine, thank God." He managed to say before he hung his head.
Mistaking his chuckles for sobs Catherine lifted his head. "What's going on with you?" She asked.
"My God, Cath! Three hours ago I was sure that I'd never see her alive again but she's okay and I'm going to be a father!" He said as he grinned.
This is for Jess to make up for Coming Home (Which she had no part of. She DID NOT tell me to off anyone).
