Game Over: Would you like to save?

He wondered about a lot of things as he was driving frantically – yet still surprisingly calmly – away from Takada's body guards. He wondered of how many video games he had every beaten in his life. Yes, most people would think that would be completely irrelevant at this point in time, but Matt was not most people. He lived for the fantasy realms that video games could offer; ranging from wars over in Asia (Dynasty Warriors) to the demonic enemies in New York (Devil May Cry) and even for the odd worlds of Final Fantasy.
Yes, he was not most people. Most people were not so immensely bored with life that they played video games near constantly to escape from the harsh reality that was the product of his boredom. Most people would not spend the time to memorize cheat codes from sheer repetition of playing through those tantalizing worlds that were far beyond his grasp in all but his mind. Most people would not bother to find every single secret mission or area in the gaming realm to better understand the virtual worlds.
No, Matt was not a happy man. He had not been happy since he was child, and even then those moments were few and far between. He remembered when video games had soon lost their luster of giving him his escape, just another boredom factor in his life.
Maybe that was why he had joined up with Mello in capturing Kira. He was not like the protagonists in his beloved video games he so lusted after in life. Nor was he the antagonist who made life hectic for those protagonists. No, he was just a person who would merely join in for the excitement of it all.
He honestly couldn't care anymore, of this world and its parameters, as he was forced to pull to a stop from the blockade and he briefly wondered how he might be able to get out of this situation, if at all, leaning against the steering wheel, taking a drag of his cigarette before stepping out cautiously.
"Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Since when have the Japanese been allowed to carry such nice guns?" the gamer asks, raising his hands to show he was unarmed. Maybe, his fate was to end up... No, he wouldn't think that just yet. He had yet to play out with his plan to see if it would work anyways. "I am an accomplice in the kidnapping of Takada. Don't you have a bunch of questions to ask me? What's the point in firing-"
He never had gotten to finish that question as gunfire rang out in the air, cutting him off violently, filling his body with bullets, and even the car behind him. After the gunshots stopped, his body stayed standing for a few seconds as he looked up at the night sky, cigarette still hanging between his lips. 'Maybe I was supposed to end up like that Zack Fair guy in Final Fantasy... VII wasn't it? Shot down... Only thing missing is the best friend being here... And the rain...' and with that thought, Matt's slowly draining body fell down against the car before slumping against the ground, blood pooling around him.
'Annihilated.' he thought, thinking back to one of the later Final Fantasy games' 'Game Over' screen that he had loved when he was a kid at Wammys. And the cigarette fell from his lips, bouncing off his now bloodied vest and falling to the crimson-painted pavement in silence.
Game Over.
Would you like to save?
Yes / No

Chaotic: Yes, it is rather angsty... But, what Matt was thinking in the first half, "bored with life, loving video games better", I used my own thinking process for that bit, because I think that was what Matt's life was like.
