Hobbits never ceased to amaze Legolas. they had stopped for the night under a small cluster of trees, trying to get out from under the rain that had been coming down in buckets all afternoon. They were all throughly soaked through, but, in spite of that, Merry and Pippin had started a game of tag, TAG! In the rain, Legolas had no idea who was it, and he didn't think the Hobbits knew either, for they were both chasing each other, slipping in the mud and wet grass, getting just as muddy as they were wet. Then, they tried to get others in on it. Running first to Frodo and Sam, who refused, using the excuse of making dinner, then they tried to get Aragorn and Boromir to join them, but they got out of it as well, they decided not to try Gandalf, worried he might turn them into some kind of animal. Gimli had just gone off to try to find dry wood for a fire, so that left him out. That left only Legolas, and the hobbits were not taking no for an answer.

"Come on Legolas, it'll be fun!" Pippin cried, hauling the reluctant elf to his feet. Legolas looked at Aragorn with a begging look. Aragorn chuckled. "You're on your own this time."

"You are an evil man." Legolas muttered as he was dragged out into the rain. Pippin took commanded. "Alright, Legolas, you chase us, we run. Got that?"

Legolas sighed and nodded.

Merry grinned. "Run Pip." He said and took of running, Pippin close behind. Legolas sighed again, shot Aragorn a look that could have killed the grinning man, and ran after the hobbits.

The next hour was a bit of a blur, with Legolas chasing the Hobbits, and getting just as muddy as they were. When Gimli returned, he found Legolas lying on his back in the mud, Merry and Pippin beside him. All three of them soaked, muddy, and laughing so hard Legolas almost wasn't breathing and Pippin was rolling around clutching his stomach. As the Dwarf put down the small amount of wood he had found, Elf and Hobbits stood and let the rain wash away the worst of the mud, grins splitting their faces. That night as everyone lay sleeping, whispers could be heard from the two Hobbits. Something about getting Aragorn to play catch with them, but eventually, silence fell as the two drifted off to sleep.
