Jason sat on the rocks above the beach, watching the sun sinking below the waves, turning the water a burning orange. Despite the lateness of the evening, it was still warm enough for him to be sitting there in shorts and a sweatshirt. Idly, he picked up a stone and flicked it into the water, watching as the ripples faded away. From further down the beach, he could hear the faint music and hubbub of voices.

Sounds like the party's still going...

He was about to grab another stone when he heard footsteps and he looked round to see a brown-haired woman watching him with a cheery smile.

'Hi.' She said.

'...Hi.' Jason said, grabbing another stone and flicking it into the water.

'I don't know if you noticed,' she said, 'but there's a great party doing here tonight.'

'I know.' Jason said. 'It sounds like everyone's having a good time.'

'Everyone except you.' She said, holding out her hand. 'My name's Adrianna.'

...Jason.' He said, shaking her hand and she sat down next to him.

'You're a long way from home.' She said and Jason looked down.

'...yeah.' He said, and her smile faded.

'I'm sorry. You must miss it...'

'...sometimes.'

'And so, you're sitting here feeling sorry for yourself?'

...I guess.' Jason said and Adrianna stood up, extending her hand.

'Come on. Me and a few others are gonna play some volleyball, but we're a man short. How about it?'

'...maybe later.' Jason said and she frowned.

'Come on. You're not going to leave a lady hanging, are you?' She said and Jason grinned, taking her hand and getting to his feet.

'...alright. Let's go...'
