In the dead of night,

A murder took place

Twenty children, from not even a year to twelve years old

Were all fed the same poison at dinner time.

One by one, the children died, all but one, who suffered as his peers passed, knowing he didn't have much time left.

Amberosè walked down the quiet street of London. What a strange place London was. All types of people lived here and not just white people. She sensed the children dying one by one, depending on how quick the poison hit their systems. She was here to collect their souls, to make sure their deaths weren't painful and they did t suffer.

She got close to the orphanage, and the cries of children suffering filled her ears. What an awful sound, but what was she to do other than take them out of their miseries. Evangeline turned to her, blonde locks swinging as she did.

"Should I get the Yard?" She asked her companion. That's one reaper she would give her life up for. They were friend the moment Amberosè joined the force. She was happy to have a permanent friend here at the agency. She nodded and watched her blonde friend take a wonderful disguise before heading off.

She opened the door and looked around. This orphanage was in no better repair. She was surprised the place was still up and running, but there was no time to dwell on how bad the place looked. She needed to keep her focus on the dead and dying children.

One by one, room by room, she checked for signs of life. So far, the children were all dead. Such pity for someone to kill off parentless children like that.

She entered the main room where all of them were dead...except one...

The child was lying there, curling up into a tight ball as water droplets rolled down his face. The child groaned and moaned, not knowing what was wrong with him as well. Amberosè walked over to the child cautiously and carefully so she wouldn't spook him. She sat down next to him and ran a gentle hand over his head, murmuring under her breath as golden rays escaped from her hand and landed on him. The boy's eyes shot open as he weakly turned around to look at her.

"W-who are you?" He asked weakly.

The voice sounded very young but he could speak in clear sentences. She guessed the boy was about eight. She smiled pleasantly at him.

"You're friends, family, your peers, they are gone. They have left this world. Soon, you'll be next, my darling," she said to him.

Tears filled his eyes as he realized what was going and what was happening to him.

"I don't wanna die!" He cried out as tears rolled down his cheeks.

She softly shushed him, laying a finger on his lips. "I promise you won't die. You'll close your eyes and fall fast to sleep."

The tears stopped and a weak smile appeared on his lips. Children were so easy to manipulate. There was no hope for survival for this boy, but she had to tell him so he wouldn't be afraid anymore.

Those big green eyes looked up at her hopefully. "Can you at least hold me until I fall asleep?"

The reaper smiled as she picked him up. "Of course I can. I'll be here until you fall asleep."

Evangeline had called the Yard and blew it up way out of proportion. Carriages of wealth and authority raced towards the orphanage in the middle of the night. Evangeline let the Yard and the earl to the site. Once Fred Abberline walked in, he saw what looked like sleeping children. The earl of Phantomhive was right behind him, gasping at the sight of "sleeping" children.

Amberosè was found cradling the dying boy in her arms. His last words were, "Will you adopt me when I wake up?"

And her last words to him were, for all the Yard to see and hear, "Yes, but for now, sleep my darling."

He slept for all eternity.
