25. Black Lake
I hope you like it :)
"Hermione?"
"Hm?" The brunette girl only made, not looking up from the book she was reading, leaning against Draco who was sitting next to her on the meadow by the Black Lake.
"I know you are not somebody to jabber around that much, but... I thought we came out here to have a nice time and not for me watching you while you are reading your book."
Hermione looked up and furrowed her brows before she answered:"But it is nice to sit here in quiet, isn't it?"
She leaned even closer to him, swinging her legs over his legs in a nearly provocative way and Draco did not miss how her eyes wandered over to the small group of Gryffindors sitting at the shore of the lake, dangling their feet in the cool water.
"Sometimes I think that you're just using me to get back at him," Draco said and made a move towards the red-haired boy with his head, his lips a thin line as he saw her caught expression, her eyes wide.
"Draco, I...," Hermione wanted to apologise, only flimsy answered in her heads, but suddenly she registered that Draco's eyes were elsewhere as well, lingering over the ginger hair of another Weasley before they returned to her.
"And you are using me in the hope that she will realise something about you," she said softly, closing her book and took his hand, bringing a bit of distance between them. Draco was completely different to his arrogant self when he was in love and she knew that he was vulnerable right now.
"Being in love really sucks sometimes, you know?" He whispered back, his grey eyes on the ground. They both felt guilty right now, but somehow they had known this from the start. Both had discovered pretty early that the other one was carrying a photograph around, one that did not show Draco or Hermione. They had never had this pink perfect world of people being in love, even though they had pretended it and they had known that it had not been meant to be after all.
And now, they were at the point the had had to reach somehow – the separation point, and if they were honest, they were both not sad about it as they both got up and walked towards the people they really wanted to be with.
