Gone.
Just like that, Rapunzel's life was totally changed.
She couldn't help but sob.
Doing the only thing she ever did when she wanted comfort; sing the healing inclination.
"Heal what has been hurt, change the Fate's design. Save what has been lost…" Rapunzel's voice cracked at "lost". She continued on still. "Bring back what once was mine," She sobbed harder, the tears streaming of her nose onto Eugene's lifeless face. "Bring back what once was mine," She repeated.
All of the events that just occurred flashed through her mind: Mother aging rapidly, Eugene coughing and dying, her hair being cut and turning brown. Suddenly a flash of golden light interrupted her thoughts.
She wiped her wet face and turned toward the flashing brightness. The light swirled around her and rumpled her short hair. A beautiful lily erupted where Eugene's wound was. It shrank back inside his body and Rapunzel's eyes widened. She tucked her hair behind her ear as the light faded.
She leaned in to touch the spot where the lily had gone when she heard someone exhale. She whipped back to see Eugene's eyes opening and taking in breaths. She gasped, hoping she wasn't dreaming. "Eu…Eugene?" She breathed.
"Did I ever tell you I had a thing for Brunette's?" Eugene said softly, smiling at Rapunzel.
All of the strength exploded into her heart as tears of joy ran down her cheeks. "EUGENE!" She yelled, jumping down and attacked him with a huge hug. They embraced and Rapunzel broke off, gazed into his face, and laughed.
She did something completely on impulse: she kissed him. She expected just a light one, but Eugene deepened it. She was caught completely by surprise but responded warmly. If kissing him felt so extraordinary, she wished she did it before. They broke apart and shared a loving gaze. "Wow," Eugene breathed as he gazed deep into Rapunzel's eyes. They were so green, so beautiful.
"I...I..." Rapunzel stuttered, not knowing where to start explaining the latest events. "It's okay Rapunzel. Just breath," Eugene comforted; he sensed she was overwhelmed. He squeezed her tightly and felt her heart beating against his chest. Rapunzel looked up and blurted, "I'm the lost princess!"
