I don't own Ashes to Ashes, I just worship it! Please R&R!

It's 1985 and the day of a wedding. But who's getting married?

Before The Wedding

Alex looked at Shaz as she stood in her beautiful white dress. Carefully she placed a matching lace veil over her short, black hair and pale face. Shaz smiled nervously. She was trembling.

"Scared?"

Shazza nodded and then grinned, "I can't believe I'm actually getting married!"

"Chris is a lucky man." Alex told her.

"I'm a lucky woman. It's amazing he fell for an Essex girl with a bad attitude!"

"You were lovely back then!" She assured her, seeing Shaz's raised eyebrows she added, "Well, some of the time. I admit you could be a little bitch. Not that that's a bad thing!"

Shaz laughed and glanced at the clock. "It's time we were heading down. He'll be here soon with the car." She held the door open for Alex.

The car in question? Why, the Guv's red Audi Quattro of course!

At The Church

Chris watched proudly as Shazza's dad walked her down the aisle, ready to give her away. When she reached him he gently lifted up her veil.

Gene sat beside Alex, a few pews from the front of the church. He sighed as Alex's mascara began to run. He kissed the top of her head. She smiled tearfully at him.

"It's a wedding Bolly," He whispered, "not a bleedin' funeral."

Ray was sat beside the Guv, listening half-heartedly as Shaz and Chris recited their vows.

At The Reception

Alex watched as Chris and Shaz swayed gently to I Want To Know What Love Is by Foreigner. Gene's choice. She held her hand out to him and together they stepped onto the dance floor. As they got a rhythm she laid her head on his chest. She didn't want this moment to end.

Later At The Reception

The airy hall was eerily quiet. It unsettled Alex. She shifted uncomfortably in her seat. Gene walked over to her. All eyes seemed to be on them. Her mouth fell open as he got onto one knee. She knew what was coming next. She watched as Gene pulled out a green, velvet box from his pocket. He opened it. A stunning diamond ring sat on a silk cushion.

"Will you marry me, Alex Drake?"

"Yes, yes I will!"

The pair grinned and hugged. Soon they were surrounded by a group of people congratulating them.

Gene and Alex's Wedding

"You look lovely m'am." Shaz complimented as Alex smoothed out her white wedding dress.

"Thank you!" Alex smiled.

She couldn't believe she was marrying Gene Hunt. She sometimes still had to pinch herself to make sure she wasn't dreaming.

After The Vows

"You may now kiss the bride." The minister said.

Gene didn't hesitate. It was a slow, passionate kiss that made Alex feel on top of the world. She kissed him back, eyes shining.

It was that day that convinced Alex to stay. She had spent four years trying to get home. Now she knew she was already there. With Gene and Chris and Shazza and Ray was the only home she needed.
