I Can't Leave

They were childhood sweethearts. He was her first love. She had been with others, but he was the only one who ever gave her butterflies. Whenever she saw him her heart felt like it was pounding in her throat. They occasionally held hands when they were in high school, he would tenderly brush his thumb across her face, and the world would disappear. Neither of them daring to speak their true feelings.

There he was in front of her again. They hadn't spoken in months, even years. But there he was. And it was as if only hours had passed. Her breath caught. A heavy feeling in her chest. Butterflies soared in her stomach. Her spine tingled. Her body covered in goosebumps. Her heart felt like it was jumping up in her throat, as though it may just fall out of her mouth. She felt the irresistible pull to be closer to him. She wished she could throw her arms around him and hug him tightly. But she couldn't dare to risk such a thing.

"How are you? What have you been up to these days?" She asked.

"I'm okay, I found a great job, I'll be moving soon actually." His eyes looked to the floor and pursed his lips

Her heart sank. What if this was her last chance to see him? Her last chance to reach out and hold him. Her last chance to confess her feelings.

"I-I-Okay I just need to say it..I'll miss you" She confessed, looking down shyly.

That was all he needed to hear to realize he needed her. He needed her with him, forever.

He stepped closer, his legs trembling. With shaking hands he put his finger gently under her chin, lifting it. Holding his breath, his lips were suddenly on hers. Kissing her passionately, his lips pressed hard against hers, desperately. He put his hands on her face.

Her cheeks flushed. She felt like she may faint. 12 years of waiting, 12 years of longing. She looked deeply into his warm, rich, chocolate eyes.

He pulled her face closer and kissed her again, this time so gently their lips barely touched. He looked at her, brushing her cheek.

"I can't leave. I need you. I need you so much. You're all I think about. I've missed you so much."

His hands moved to her hips, gripping her tightly, as if he was afraid she might disappear.

"I can't leave you"

"But what about your job?"

"Screw that job. Forget everything. Nothing matters but you. I..I love you. I've loved you for

years. I love you, God I can't say it enough. I love you, so so much."

She looked into his eyes again and smiled gently.

"I love you too."

She wrapped her arms around his shoulders and kissed him again.

It was if they had never lived until today.
