So, I had this idea for a story, I'm not sure if it's any good, and I would love opinions, please read and review.
Kagome stared warily down the long, dark, wet street. She dreaded the walk home from work, as she was never quite certain that she would make it back to her apartment. Not that It's such a great place to be anyway, she thought grimly to herself, as she clutched her black carrier bag closer to her chest. It stuck out oddly from beneath her knee-length coat, and brushed against the pocket of her jeans.
It was late, around eleven o'clock on a brisk April evening. Kagome, feeling a little chilly, pulled her long jacket closer to her body. It had rained earlier that day, and the water drip-dripping off the drainage pipes created a slow and steady rhythm.
With a smile, Kagome reached into her pocket, and rubbed her hand across her the smooth, cool object inside of it. She had discovered this particular piece of petrified wood on the beach about twelve years ago.
Kagome abruptly pulled her hand away, as images of her Mother's face flashed in her mind. She sighed, bracing herself for the endeavor to come, and marched forward, down the street. She turned, taking one last look at the tiny bakery. The hand-carved wooden sign hanging over the entrance read, 'Higurashi Bakery.' Kagome's heart swelled with pride every time she read that sign; this was her family's bakery, the pride and joy of her late mother's family. Kagome had been running it quite successfully for almost four years.
A streetlamp in front of her flickered. Kagome clucked her tongue in disapproval of a sudden, unexpected puddle that appeared right before her feet. Her leather boots were quite worn, and would be wholly unaffected by this bit of damp, but the bottoms of her jeans soaked up the cold, muddy liquid. Kagome shook her head, mildly irritated, and pushed forward.
She could see the concrete of her apartment building; a small, three level and twelve room complex. The soft yellow glow in the windows contrasted with the cool, dark background of concrete walls. Kagome wistfully stared ahead, imagining a hot bath, followed by a good book. Perhaps a mystery, or a-
A shadow caught Kagome's eye, abruptly pulling her away from her thoughts, and prompting her to quicken her pace. With no warning, a shape emerged from the shadows just to her right, and a hand was suddenly resting upon her shoulder.
A man's voice said jeeringly, "Fancy seeing you in a place like this, Kikyo. Suddenly you're not too good to be seen down here-... Oh. You're not..." the voice trailed off.
Kagome probably would have screamed, had she not been so intrigued by the face that appeared before her. This stranger had silver hair, and on top of his head, protruding from underneath that hair, were what appeared to be dog ears. Dog ears...? Kagome was reeling, They're... so adorable. Without thinking, she reached up and-
"If you're wondering," The man was speaking again, and this time he sounded amused. "I'm a demon. Well, half-demon."
"I-I know. I've seen...demons before," Kagome replied numbly, as she touched the furry ears on top of the mysterious stranger's head "They... come into my bakery all the time..." What was she doing here? In an alley at night, with a stranger? A stranger with dog ears...
All of a sudden, her instincts and reflexes kicked in. She reached out and pushed against the stranger with all of her might, and then she turned and ran hard in the direction of her apartment.
Huffing and puffing, she arrived a minute later in the courtyard of her apartment building. Buyo, a very large tabby cat belonging to one of her downstairs neighbors, meowed softly at Kagome, his yellow cat-eyes following her in the darkness. She paused briefly before running up the old set of stairs to the second level, where her apartment - 2C - was located. Opening the door hastily, she scooted inside and closed it behind her, locking it.
