Meredith Brody moved to New Orleans trying to forget some shade events from her past. In the new city she got a new wonderful family; her team became her everything. She didn't what people from New Orleans had, but she liked them a lot: especially Chris. She became partners with him and that work relation became a beautiful friendship. They were always teasing each other during cases and keeping the mood lighter around the office. Dwayne Pride, their boss, was very happy about that arrangement.
Sometimes a man and a woman can remain friends forever and that's all right. However, for better or worse, that isn't how it usually works. LaSalle was happily dating an old friend of his, whom he promised himself a long time ago he was going to marry, Savannah Kelly. She was a beautiful, lovely woman who had an unfortunate end. The NCIS team was going after Baitfish and he decided to send a message to the investigators by killing Chris' girlfriend. He was devastated and only with one thing in mind: revenge!
Pride and Brody were very worried and did their best to keep his head on the game, but seeing a friend deal with such a terrible loss wasn't easy on them. In that moment, when Brody looked in LaSalle's eyes and saw his pain, a chill hit her body. She noticed a rush of feelings going through her soul and it wasn't pleasant at all: she was developing feelings for her partner. That's never easy, especially when the guy you are falling for has just lost the love of his life.
Time heals almost all the wounds, but when the pain is from something unsaid, that rule just doesn't apply. Months have passed and Chris was doing better; he got back in his feet and felt it was time to let grieve go. He went back to his old self: always joking around with the team, smiling and laughing. The day Brody walked on him building his little plastic projects she knew her partner was back.
A new member joined the team, so Brody and Chris teamed up to mess around with the newbie. Meredith was having tons of fun by doing something else than work with LaSalle. They were just great together!
On the first case with the new agent, Brody noticed something unusual about her partner. Every time (he thought) she wasn't looking, he was checking her out; sneaking a
peek. "That's just crazy; my imagination is making things up", she thought. Maybe yes, maybe not.
Later that day, the two of them had to take a boat and infiltrate a place full of trained shooters in order to help agent Pride. LaSalle had an idea to get the King's attention: she fired a well placed bullet at him in order to inform they were around. Of course the organization fired back, repeatedly! Since Chris was the one conducting the boat, he was more vulnerable than Brody and when she saw he might be in immediate danger, her heart raced off. That couldn't be the way she loses him, the agent didn't even have time to process her feelings yet. Meredith didn't think; she just started firing in all the directions she could imagine. As a result, three bad guys were down and Chris got shot on his vest.
- Brody, are you okay? What the hell just happened?
- Nothing. I panicked. You were just shot, I had to do something. I'm fine. How are you?
- I'm all right. The vest protected me. Now, let's take a deep breath and go bring the King back home with us.
He fixed her hair and smiled; she smiled back and the two of them finished their job. By the end of the day, Pride was back in the city safe and sound celebrating with his friends and the new agent.
Maybe LaSalle was starting to have a crush on Brody, but that could be only her wishful thinking. Either way, that story was only starting...
