Kurt winced as he saw Rachel's face. Her nose was a badly bruised and it was definitely swollen. He had heard about Finn being his usual self, carelessly swinging his arms about while dancing and accidentally hitting Rachel in the face. Apparently the blow had echoed through the auditorium, stopping everyone in their tracks as Rachel hit the floor with a loud thump.

"Kurt, can I ask you something?" She asked as she sat across from him. "Of course, sweetie, what is it?" She held out her pinky and said, "Promise you won't laugh at me?" He sighed and hooked his pinky with hers. "Do you...Do you think I'm pretty? Please be honest." She kept her eyes trained on her lap.

Kurt couldn't believe his ears. Here was Rachel Berry, future Broadway star, the embodiment of self confidence, feeling unsure about her looks. Taking his silence and gaping mouth as a bad sign, Rachel quickly added, "Maybe Santana was right, I should get a nose job." She started wringing her hands on the table, afraid that Kurt would agree with her.

He shook his head, snapping himself out of his disbelief and gently took her small hands in his. "Rachel, look at me. Good girl, now listen to me, really listen okay?" He waited for her to nod before continuing, looking her straight in the eyes, "You're not pretty, you're beautiful. Actually scratch that, your freaking gorgeous, inside and out. Don't listen to Santana or Quinn, remember when you came to school dressed as Britney? Every guy was drooling over you! Maybe you're not traditionally pretty but you're perfect just the way you are. You have to believe that!"

Rachel could feel tears welling up in her eyes as she listened to Kurt's speech and wiped them away quickly. "Kurt, as much as I appreciate your kind words, I must disagree with you. I'm not pretty or beautiful or gorgeous, inside or out, just listen to what everyone says. I'm obnoxious, selfish and ugly, my nose is too big, my hair is horrible, my mouth is too large, my-" He cut her off, clamping a hand over her mouth, he was definitely going to have a talk with Finn about what he had been doing as the brunette's boyfriend all those months.

Kurt was at a loss on how to show Rachel what a great person she was when suddenly, a song came over the speakers. He was struck with an idea. "Look Rachel, Barbra Streisand didn't need a nose job and neither do you." He stood up and led her out of coffee shop, feeling like a genius as he started to sing and dance, noticing the genuine smile that emerged on his favourite diva's face and lit up the whole mall.

A/N Just a short one-shot. I love Hummelberry/Kurtchel friendship!
