Loyalty

There were explosions and screams all aroundhim. People lay dying before him, and still it all seemed strangely surreal. Nothing existed for him Nothing but one thing, Iceman. Pyro couldn't understand why they were here, all six of the X-men. It was certain death for them. They were outnumbered twenty to one, and still they had come to fight.

How could they fight for perfect strangers, but couldn't be bothered to fight for one of there own. They had never truly cared about him, always brushing him aside or blaming him. That's why he left, they never cared. He had hoped that Magneto would. Turned out that didn't work either. He had seen how Magneto had repaid Mystique for here loyalty, should it ever come to it he expected to suffer the same fate.

No, no one had ever stood up for him, not his parents, not his teachers, not even his friends. He had hoped that in Bobby he had found a true friend, someone who would see him for who he was, not what he was.

In the beginning they had been the best of friends, but then she came. That little helpless girl that had lured Bobby away from him. The most ironic thing of all, was that the night before she came, he and Bobby had shared their first kiss. They had shared a promise of more to come. A promise that was left unfulfilled because of her. Bobby left him because of her.

And now here on the battlefield, Rogue was no where to be seen. Probably gotten herself cured. How can you run away from who you truly are? For Pyro, to be a mutant is to be himself. And he would never give that up.

She left Iceman to stand alone. She left him weak. A weakness that could now cost Bobby his life.

Earlier, Magneto had stopped him from going to Bobby. He stood in the sidelines watching as Bobby slowly tired and made mistakes. Became tired and left himself open to attacks.

One of Magneto's mutants approached Bobby. He was to focused on fighting the two mutants in front of him to see the one at his back. He couldn't defend himself.

Pyro didn't think. Bobby may not love him as he loved Bobby, but he'd be damned if he let someone kill what should be his. Fire shot from his hands burning the mutant alive. The last thing that registered with John before he was thrown into the air, was the incredulous expression on Bobby's face.

Pyro fell to the ground, dazed it took him a few seconds to regain his bearings. He felt an icy cold at his back. And a dark presence looming over him. He looked up, Magneto stood before him.

The look in Magneto's eyes could have killed him. "Traitor. You choose him above us, your kind? Then you shall die with him and the humans."

In his last moments he felt cold arms circle his waist and cold lips press to his neck. John was no psychic but he could feel the words ringing in his head as clear as if they had been spoken. 'I love you John'. Somehow he knew that Bobby heard the same words in his mind.

It was his last thought as pain overtook him. He never knew how painful it was to have iron torn out of your body.

Then it was over and all John could see was a bright light, and Bobby waiting for him.
