Ch.1- Changing My Designator
Harm knocked on Mac's door. He was very nervous, but he wanted her to know before the Admiral announced it to the whole office. Mac answered the door in her pajamas, nail polish on her fingers and toes.Over Mac's head,Harm saw Chloe in the living room. Damn, she had company.
"Hey, Harm. Wanna come in?" Mac asked, stepping aside. Chloe saw him and waved, smiling. He waved back and turned back to Mac. Wow. She looked really pretty, even in her pj's.
"Uh, I forgot that you had company. I'll see you at work tomorrow." He said nervously, turning to leave.
"Harm, you can stay. I was just going to get my jammies on anyway." Chloe said, getting up to go to Mac's bedroom. Harm stepped in, glancing around nervously.
"What's up, Harm?" Mac asked. Something was clearly wrong with him. He looked really nervous, which wasn't very Harm-like. Especially around her.
"Uh, I... geez. You'd think that being a lawyer, I'd be more articulate. Ok. I'm changing my designator. I'm going back to fly." He said, not looking at her.
"What about the night blindness?" Mac asked in calm desperation. He couldn't leave. She needed him.
"I had minor corrective surgery on my eyes, I'm fine." He said, finally looking at her. She looked very distressed. Was he doing the right thing?
"You can't just leave. What about JAG?" Mac looked right back into his eyes, hoping that he couldn't tell just how upset this was making her.
"Mac, you of all people know how important flying is to me. I have to do this." Harm replied, a little angry at her for not understanding.
"Harm, I understand that. But if you leave now, that's like saying that flying is more important to you than Jordan, that it's more important to you than JAG, it's more important to you than..." She trailed off, looking away from him. But he wanted her to finish the sentence.
"More important to me than what, Sarah?" The use of her first name made her heart skip a beat, and she looked into his eyes.
"Is flying more important to you than me?" She asked, quietly. Harm cocked his head. Yeah, it was important to him, but Sarah was like the core of his existance. She was the only constant thing in his life. He loved her for that. He loved her. Oh, god. What was he doing? He couldn't leave. When he didn't answer her, Mac looked at her feet, trying not to cry.
"No." Harm said simply. Mac looked up at him. He was serious.
"Really?" She asked. He nodded, taking her hand.
"Sarah, I think I'm falling in love with you. Can I stay, to be with you?" Harm hoped that she wasn't mad at him for even considering leaving, but he knew that his Marine was fair if anything, so he had a good fighting chance.
"I fell for you forever ago, and I need you. Stay with me."
