I own nothing. This is my first fanfic, I just couldn't resist with these two. I'm more into reading than writing, but since I couldn't find much on Sydney and Maggie, I decided to give it a try. Any mistakes are mine, I'm sorry for any grammar or vocabulary errors, English is not my mother tongue but I hope you can still enjoy it. :)
Chapter One: Unbelievably sweet
It was a long day. The exam was frighting but everything after that got even more crazy. Helping Alex deliver the baby and passing the exam thanks to Sydney was amazing but Joel's death really put a hamper on things. I can't believe he's dead.
It's nice to finally be in bed and get some much needed sleep, the mattress feels welcome and warm and provides a sense of comfort which I longed for. There might be more comforting and "homier" places than an on-call-room but it's what I need right now.
I feel the mattress shift and someone hugging me from behind. "Shhh... don't wake up, it's just me, it's ok. Everything is going to be ok.", it's nice to hear her voice, it's soothing and welcome. I must have started crying at some point, tears are streaming down my face and I'm so relieved she's here.
"Syd, why are you here? I thought you weren't on call tonight?", my voice is faint and strained and interrupted by some sobs.
"I'm not, I just thought I would see how you're doing... God, you're so stiff again!" I laugh a little and turn around. Sydney looks at me like someone just kicked her puppy, it's a heartbreaking sight and my eyes start watering all over again. Our faces are only inches apart and a tiny smile starts breaking over her features when she starts combing my hair with her fingers. "You know, I lied... I really like your hair open." I had to laugh again, she was unbelievable. And right now also unbelievably sweet.
When the obnoxious beeping becomes unbearable, I reach for my pager. The beeping doesn't stop though, so I slowly open my eyes and realise that it must be Maggie's pager.
"Come on sleepyhead, wake up. You got paged." Maggie only groans and reaches for her pager before cuddling back into my side.
"You know, I started to believe you weren't a hugger, since you're always so stiff. Seems like you're quite the cuddler though." I say with a smirk.
"Yeah, yeah, you can stop making fun of me, I'm already going." she complains with a groggy voice and starts extracting herself from me. I start to get up and stop her before she leaves the bed to hug her one more time within the confines of the on-call-room and I happily notice that she's no longer stiff in my arms.
"You're going to be alright. Now go, I'm sure they're already waiting." I say before giving her a gentle nudge in the direction of the door. My eyes follow her out and I can only hope she can forgive me for my screw-ups from the last weeks. I plop back into bed, and as always she's on my mind. It's really sad how yesterday turned out, when I last saw her, she was so happy and cute when she passed her exams but seeing her crying because of Joel was really heartbreaking.
