disclaimer: I don't own Starbucks, or Inception.
"i didn't know you were a fan of eating giant cookies for breakfast."
He hadn't known she liked going to starbucks.
It all started a few weeks ago. He had excused himself early from the warehouse to pick up some early morning coffee for the rest of the group—the mood of the group matched the sky: gray, dull and boring.
He had noticed that Ariadne was missing early that morning, but he passed it off and continued his way to the nearby starbucks to buy the long list of coffee the guys had wanted to drink. When he walked in that morning, he was surprised to find Ariadne sitting in the corner of the coffee shop. She was looking at her red blackberry phone and she was drinking a medium cup of coffee and was apparently focusing her attention to a giant chocolate chip cookie which nestled itself on a plain napkin.
For a second, just staring at her made him completely forget the coffee list in his hands.
He walked over to her and sent her a half smile when she looked up to meet her glance. She nearly fell out of her chair.
"Arthur!" she exclaimed, putting her phone down, obviously guilty about being caught. "Um, this isn't what it looks like! I'm not ditching work for this—"
He had laughed and dismissed it. She sent him a grateful smile and offered the chair in front of her. He took it without hesitation.
"So I didn't know you were a fan of eating giant chocolate chip cookies for breakfast," he started, watching carefully as her lips curved up into a small smile.
She almost laughed. "I'm not, but I'm in the mood for something sweet."
Arthur knitted his eyebrows. "You mean something sweet that's about the size of your face?"
Ariadne frowned. "Is it seriously the size of my face?"
"You'd be surprised," he muttered, watching her as she reached for her cup of coffee and took a long sip.
The pair were emerged into a comfortable silence until Ariadne tilted her head in confusion, studying the almost forgotten list in Arthur's hand. "What's that in your hand?"
Arthur frowned before looking at where Ariadne was looking and his eyes widened when the realization hit him. "Oh. This."
She raised an eyebrow. "Is it a love letter?"
Even though it was meant to drop humor into the conversation, there was a side of envy and jealousy dripping into her voice.
And Arthur noticed.
Instead of commenting, he sent her another half smile. "It's not a love letter Ariadne."—he didn't miss the way her body visibly relaxed at that—"It's just a list of coffee orders the guys wanted me to order for them. They are just about as happy as the weather."
Ariadne laughed again and stood up after gathering her items from the table. "Do you want me to join you?"
He thought about it for a second. Then he smiled and helped her throw away the trash she wanted to dispose. "I'd like that."
author's note: Sorry it's so short—well, no I'm not actually sorry because it was meant to be short—but I just wanted to write something short with not too much fluff and not too much romance.
